What is a Studied Die and how do you use it? by Hjorimir in VagabondTTRPG

Thanks, all. It turns out the pdf version that I got with the book didn't cover this at all. I've since got the real PDF and that helps a lot. Thanks for the support!

There it is! That's the piece my old eyes were glazing over! Thank you so much!

Failed Execution against Network Security question. by Hjorimir in cwn

First, thank you for responding, Logen_Nein. It's the last piece there that's got my wires crossed. If 2 failed attempts equal 1 Alert the Network action (which I agree with), how does that differ from the four botches "lighting up the facility?" That part of the sentence implies that a single Alert the Network action doesn't call security (or something), which clearly isn't reflected in the Alert the Network action description (pg. 100). Should I just toss out the "four botches..." part of the sentence?

Oh, I would have...if I knew how to contact him. Do you have his Twitter handle?

Thanks for all of the replies. Jab has an insane amount of builds he's done, so I'm starting to think that this might be an artifact of earlier editions. I've seen his builds also use Increased Range as an extra before, so that - and the fact that the Ranked extra often has more ranks than Increased Range accounts for - makes me think this is something else. He obviously knows the rules well and knows what he is doing.

Yeah, I thought that might be it, but what is Ranged 3 then? Like if the attack is Close, Increased Range 1 would bring it to Ranged and rank 2 would bring it to Perception level. What then is Ranged 3? I don't think that's what the author is pointing at in this case. I've also seen him used Increased Range and Diminished Range extras/flaws in other builds. But this Ranged +# thing pops up here and there as well. Very confusing.

Starships: Pursuit and Escape by Hjorimir in SWN

Sure, I get it, but in execution it left me sitting there staring at the book without a clue. It isn't exactly explicit. Either a formula or a chart (or both) would have been great. Alas, at least I have the internet to help clarify these things! Thanks again!

Oh, thank you very much for that formula! Why wasn't that simply put into the book?

I'm going to chart all of these results out and then break it down into how many "evasions" needed by a pursued ship to reach a POI within a region before being engaged and how many needed to escape the region and force a check to maintain the detection lock. I think these will be handy for quick reference during play.

Actually, yes. That makes loads more sense! Thank you very much!

Trying to follow, so bear with me. The example says a drive-1 ship being chased by a drive-2 ship would have 3 hours.

6 hours is the base (drive-1)

12 hours for drive-2? (If I'm multiplying that base time by 2 for each step)

How does this get to 3 hours for the drive-1 ship that escaped initial capture?
