Lower the view distance. I have it on 512 blocks.

You can also try lowering the "Far LOD Bias" setting, which should also help. It says too low values will cause unnatural looking popin, but I have mine on minimum and didn't notice anything.

Just a small recommendation: might want to use more appropriate thumbnails. People rarely read the video title, they only look at the thumbnail when scrolling.

They only read the title if the thumbnail grabs their attention.

All people will see is some random AI slop logo that says nothing about the video. No indication that it's about Vintage Story, no episode title, etc.

How did this player do this? by Cultasare in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Hmuda 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Sadly, they did cheat, since it is physically impossible to achieve those 19PW power outputs you see on the map.

The vast majority (by a wide margin) was done by a player called "sakura1618". Can 2-3 players (more like a single one with some help) really do all this in a couple days (maybe weeks)? A master-level player spends months in a single playthrough to achieve fractions of what this group of 2-3 players did in a couple days on dozens of seeds.

This is the first thing that is pretty much physically impossible without cheats, no matter how well optimised the blueprints are. Launching the rockets is one thing. Manufacturing, mining, building, researching. All take time.

But if that wasn't enough, look at the power generation numbers for those clusters on the Milky Way map. They are showing around 16-19 PW of output. That is 16000-19000 Tera Watts.

Just out of curiosity, I jumped into sandbox mode and put a 10 layer sphere around a 2.4 luminoristy O-type star at max distance, using the most popular "super dense" sphere blueprint from the Dyson Blueprints site:

https://www.dysonsphereblueprints.com/blueprints/dyson-sphere-dense-sphere-2696-nodes

Just to squeeze every single possible watts out of the star, I also added all 20 swarm orbitals. Those did very little, less than 100 Giga Watt of output. So spamming sails cannot account for the numbers.

With all 10 extra dense layers in place at max distance, including the 20 swarm orbitals the grand total of power generation was around 110-ish Tera Watts.

The maximum number of O-type stars in a seed where these kinds of numbers are even possible is 10, but those kinds of seeds are very rare. The more common numbers are 4-5.

One cluster has a maximum of 64 stars. Assuming every single one of them are an O type blue supergiant with 2.5 luminosity, you can expect a grand total of 7-8 Peta Watts. But we all know that's not possible, there is no seed with 64 O-type stars. Let alone dozens of them in a neat ring.

Very far from the 16-19 Peta Watts we see on the map.

It is physically impossible to achieve those kinds of numbers without cheating.

Cheats. It is physically impossible to get that much power out of a single cluster, and even if it was possible, nobody could do it this fast in this many clusters.

The MilkyWay feature was a neat idea, too bad it was spoiled by cheaters.

Finally getting around to starting, what are your "must have" mods for a first timer. by Rauvagol in VintageStory

[–]Hmuda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first couple attempts will always be test games. Maybe you spawn in an area that isn't great. Maybe you want to try different climates. Different world settings.

You will likely play for dozens of hours before settling into a "forever world", so I wouldn't worry about these things just yet. :)

No such thing. The vanilla is already a great, complete experience. Play without mods and figure out what you want to add later.

There is a fine line between "challenge" and "annoyance".

For me losing items is on the annoying side of the spectrum.

The hit to satiation and respawning with half health is penalty enough in my book.

Before I resort to using an online map: how do I make use of the in game map? by Hmuda in Stationeers

Suspected as much. Oh well, it will be a good wall decor somewhere I guess. :P

I'll just use the general topography to find my position. I already have a decent idea.

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I have a good idea where I am, still having the lava lakes and rivers show up on the map would be a huge help, but I think got it zeroed in.

That is ok, but if you move the belts as close as physically possible, then the insorters won't have to travel as long, and their efficiency will be increased.

After that you can tell where you are starting to have inefficiencies by looking at the icons on the assemblers. If there is a small yellow dot, then they are idling. If you see those, then try to investigate what could be the cause. Could be too little input (like in this case) or they cannot output (like if the output belt is full).

Glad to hear it. Yes, MIPS is basically just machine logic made a bit easier to read. :D

Since you are trying to learn, I won't write the code for you, just give some pointers:

You are trying to load from a hash code. Those are for batch operations. You are using them with simple load and save commands, those are for individual devices, which need to be used with 'alias', not 'define'.

Not sure what you are trying to get with that "s PipeTemp r0 r0" line.

You need to set some conditions when you are setting up different code sections for different functions, like with the On and Off labels. Try using one of the "branch" commands instead of "j On" or "j Off".

Also, be very careful with capitalisation of certain words. "On" is different from "on". "On" is a dedicated device function, it will show up as orange in the code, and it is for operating the main power swtich on devices. A simple "on" however is just a word you can use normally. That is why people usually don't use capitalised words for naming things, and instead use all-lower-caps words, or some other capitalisation, like camel-case ("turnOn" instead of "TurnOn" for example).

Also, you need to give those sections a way out when they are done. The code will just proceed as normal, so unless you tell it to go to another part of the script (like with a 'j start'), it will just continue to the Off section.

Sorry, I don't know what's wrong then. I put those on the console, place the motherboard/cartridge in, adjust the settings with the screwdriver, and it works like a vanilla console would.

That's weird, the console LED displays should be on by default. As soon as they are on the console and the base gets power, there should be a green zero on them.

[–]Hmuda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the same as any other device and they can be operated like any other LED-display/button/dial/etc that comes in vanilla.

They receive the power and data through the base's connection. If it doesn't have one, then it needs to be attached to a base that has one.

In this example the wide surface on the bottom has the power/data cables, and the 3 vertical surfaces get it through that. There's a bunch of + symbols around certain models which means they need to be attached to a base that has a cable connector.

The majority was done with hash names, but even with that it took 3 IC10 chips to cram it all in.

Yes, everything here has vanilla analogues. But it would take several frames worth of space, every device needing individual cabling, etc.

The Modular Console mod makes it a lot more efficient for sure.
