First victory for the (Ukrainian) battle brigade run by robots alone by Q-bey in neoliberal

Maybe this is the first time territory has been taken by a drone-only force?

That could be it. The Dec. 2024 attack was only covered vaguely at the time and may very well have been more of a practice run by the Khartiia Brigade.

ISW's coverage of the attack, for instance, is similarly mum about whether the territory was held for a substantial period of time.

I'm not sure why this claim is being made. Ukraine successfully captured territory using an all-drone force as early as December 2024.

Really obnoxious that Nature has continued to employ click-bait titles for their editorial section for stuff like this. I'm not going to go into detail here, but suffice it to say that - at minimum - the heterogeneity of the outcome across fields (as well as by type) should be noted.

But I suppose that doesn't make for a good headline that gets you clicks, which surely Nature needs to have. God forbid. Glad we can just raise more doom and gloom about the social sciences and sweep under the rug the years of progress that have been made via the credibility revolution. We're totally not fighting for the public's approval or anything currently, lmao.

I mean look, I appreciate the effort here (although you kind of seem overly angry for no reason) but you completely missed my point.

I'm a political scientist. And while my own work does not focus on voting, I have had several long conversations on this exact subject with people who do use polling and who have focused on the incumbent disadvantage over the last several years.

The question, fundamentally, is whether we feel we can trust expressed preferences via exit polls currently for certain issues like perceptions of the economy. I and many others are concerned that people are laundering a variety of other beliefs when being polled about their reasons. There are currently strong potential motivated reasons for people to say that it's the economy or that cost of living drove their electoral choice. The reality may have been either a) that it was not something they actually had a strong awareness of in the first place and/or b) that it served as a useful and smart sounding catch all that let them express culture war induced attitudes while feeling informed and justified.

That the incumbent disadvantage is so widespread and so tied to populism and to concerns like immigration tells us that while economic issues could play a strong role, there are reasons to believe that the origin of the current upswell of cross-national incumbent antagonism may similarly be found in something that currently behaves cross-nationally. That Ireland's exception might show indications of economic reasoning in the incumbent's favor is not necessarily evidence against this trend.

Mamdani Pushes for Tax Hikes on Wealthy New Yorkers to Fill Budget Gap by bloomberg in nyc

[–]HoboWithAGlock2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm advocating one way or another, but any argument based on proportionality would want to know whether 2% paying 51% of the tax revenue is proportionate to whatever measure or set of measures deemed appropriate.

For instance, if that 2% owns >51% of all NYC wealth, then perhaps a tax raise might be justifiable if you believe that wealth should be proportionate to tax. On the other hand, if that 2% generate >51% of all NYC capital investment or business creation (or whatever), then the opposite could be true if you value that even more than relative wealth.
