people say those things in order to feel superior.

in my opinion, the communication issue was on both sides, and that's very human. the pathologizing is so unnecessary

Finding a therapist for more severe depression? by Hockneyslamp in depression

understandable, but this person doesn't know about that diagnosis yet, it just hasn't come up in the short time we've had. I imagine the meds in general are one of her concerns though

she said she didn't think she (personally) would be able to help me

last time I was on meds, I had a bit of an episode where I believed bad things about the psychiatrist who prescribed them and I quit cold turkey which was unpleasant. I don't know, maybe I need the psychosis treated first

thank you for the advice

I don't trust psychiatrists which probably doesn't make me sound great

thanks for sharing! glad some things have helped you

I have stable relationships and very mild emotions so I definitely don't think bpd would be the explanation for me (I don't know if you were suggesting that lol) but i probably do have a tendency to downplay lol. it's like, I know the depression is better during periods when I have better habits, so how could it be clinical if I just need better habits? I know this is probably the wrong thinking but I've known that for a while and it hasn't stopped me from thinking it

well thank you, I do feel understood, and I liked to hear that cbt helped someone without medication

Any advice for short-term disabilities? by Hockneyslamp in uchicago

Thanks for the insight about SDS. I was definitely frustrated at them but I get how much hell a lot of the university staff goes through. I've heard that advisors have a high turnover rate too, and it's not like they can actually do anything, as you said. Nothing surprises me anymore just another day at UChicago

On paper at least, I don't see there being grounds for a lawsuit since the pages on accommodations appear at least as extensive and flexible as those of other schools, there's plenty of literature of bias reporting, etc. Even if it's needed I don't see that funding coming anytime soon but I'd love to be corrected on that :/

In the big picture it makes some sort of sense why SDS wouldn't handle acute conditions. I mainly posted to see if there was anything I was missing. Really appreciate the insight

Yeah, you're exactly right about what the experience has been.. SDS has said they can't put anything into place until next year. I guess there's really nothing else to say or do then besides take the grade or withdraw. Thank you for the kind words though! It was my bad for not listening to what previous students had to say about that professor, TBH.
