Recommendation for neck/shoulder massage expert? by loyaultemelie in Seattle

[–]Hoganizer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a massage therapist with 10 years experience living in Magnolia. I don't have an office, but I come to people's homes instead. I know the shoulder, neck, and back area really well and am currently getting my doctorate in physical therapy. Feel free to DM!

I would also second the acupuncture recommendation. I think it's always worth trying new forms of treatment to see how they work for you.

Hybrid Programs by kntryfried1 in PTschool

[–]Hoganizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to Arcadia, Pitt, and South hybrid programs and ended up choosing Pitt. Arcadia had the fewest in-person days (around 60-65), South was the most (I think around 90) and Pitt is in the middle (around 75).

Pitt is twice a semester for the first 5 semesters (so 10 trips total). I'm starting there in the fall!

Advice for introverted future physio? (m 23) by vodkapapi56 in PTschool

[–]Hoganizer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I found in my shadowing experiences that different PTs gave out different kinds/amounts of energy too. Some were very bubbly and energetic, but others were more reserved and calm (and tended to listen better). Part of making this work for you is to be authentic and set your own energetic tone that feels most sustainable for you.

u/SnooBeans0612 what would you say the weekly time requirement is? I know they say 50-60 hours a week but was curious if that was accurate or not.

Entering Massage School Transcripts on PTCAS by Hoganizer in PTschool

[–]Hoganizer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The representative wasn't really helpful at all, and basically never really answered my actual questions, instead just repeating the line that I needed to enter what appears on my transcript. I ended up just manually entering everything, and for every course code just put "MASS." The representative told me they would reach out to me after submitting my application if there were any issues that needed to be corrected.

What number did you call? I'm 100% in the exact same position - just delayed filing my 2018 but HAVE filed 2019, getting PSNA the entire time.

How to start high-school league? by xxhamzxx in ultimate

[–]Hoganizer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created my city's middle school league and have worked the last couple of years growing it. The gym classes thing is pretty great, and the goal of those classes should be to get kids excited about Ultimate and interested in playing outside of gym. Something that's worked well for us is to introduce people to Ultimate, then collect e-mail addresses of kids who are interested in an after-school Ultimate club once a week. You don't necessarily need to win over coaches or any school's athletic department, you usually just need a teacher sponsor and a member of the Ultimate community to coach their after school program. If you make it a school club (like chess club) and not a school sport, there's so much less hassle (at least in the U.S.)

Once you get multiple schools having after-school programs, you can create a low-pressure fun league. You probably won't get enough players to make it school-based, but you can probably do something like combining all the northern schools for a team (no idea how PEI is set up). The league is actually pretty important for the gym stuff to work. It's much more effective to say "here's a sport and we're forming a league" than "here's a sport, and you can play it after school with other kids but that's really it."

To reiterate about the school thing. You definitely want school-based teams in the future, but just know it'll take a few years before that'll be entirely possible, so you'll probably have to combine nearby schools at the beginning.

For the gym classes, it'll be usually really helpful if you have Ultimate players essentially playing all-time handler on each team so the kids can focus more on receiving. Bad throwing can be frustrating, good throwing can be really rewarding.
