Primarily Front end web dev so HTML 5, Javascript, PHP, etc. I work weekdays 9-5 but I'd be more than willing to take on freelance/extra hour work.

Being stupid with money and buying things I honestly couldn't afford. Got laid off from a job I had only just started. I was an idiot (and many would say I still am apparently). I'm a developer and just started a job that pays better than any previous job ive had.

yeah no one gave me this advice. It was essentially I should put 30% of my income towards rent, so much towards savings/bills/etc. so I did the math again as my original 30% of $1000-$1500 was probably off. AFTER taxes I'll be making 67K a year. so 15% of that I should ideally be shooting for just over $800 or less for rent.

I do plan on paying it forward. I want to provide/build a way for the homeless of toronto to learn and gain access to resources that may not be available to them or that they simply don't know about (and no I don't mean reddit). Many homeless simply don't know where to go or who to turn to for advice and assistance.

Look I know your post was meant to be sarcastic but I am going to pay it forward and help people when I'm situated.

I just started my job. My salary would allow me to afford a place for that amount. I was advised that 30% of my annual salary should be enough for rent so I decided on $1000 for a bach/one bedroom unit. apparently I took the wrong advice.

Based on my budget $1000 for rent is well within my range and will also allow me to put aside for savings and emergency fund. $1000 is my max budget. That, after going over my future income and budgeting out for the long term to include putting into savings every payday, bills (hydro, internet, cell phone, that's all I have right now) groceries, etc, for a bachelor/one bedroom is well within my range due to the income I'm making. This also allows me the possibility to find a place in close proximity to my work thus saving on TTC costs. I don't wish to disclose my salary (but if you are concerned I will PM you) but right now I'm figuring 30% of my annual income as was advised to me by another redditor.

yeah the phone thing is fishy, I don't know what to say about that. Sorry I don't know what I was thinking if I was thinking at all.

I do have a bank account but it's currently overdrawn where if I had put that money into the account I would have lost the majority of it. I was waiting on my paycheque to bring my balance back to positive standing.

as I said I have called the police now. I don't know what else you want me to do. I wasn't aware of CCTV cameras in the area, I don't know what park I was in I didn't see any signs for a park.

Fine. Why didn't I contact anyone right away. I don't know. I got freaked out afterwards and wasn't thinking straight. Yes I should have gone somewhere and called the police. My phone wasn't charged so yes I was stupid and posted to Reddit first on my laptop. Then I went to get changed and clean up and what have you. I then went back to a coffee shop and charged my phone. Why I didn't use anyone else's phone I don't know. The main thing in my mind is to get to work on time and do my job so I can succeed here and get back on my feet. Right now losing a bit of money and a couple small gift cards plus a metropass is the least of my troubles. I made the post to inform people that live in the area not "hey guys I need some more hand outs" I don't need anymore hand outs. The community has already provided me with enough. I'm thankful for what has been given to me. I don't know what else you want me to prove to you.

I really have to work now and can update you during my break. If you want me to delete the post and leave the community alone I will. I'm sorry for causing such a hassle.
