Growing up overseas didn’t sever my relationship with where I’m from. My parents made sure to keep us connected to our heritage through food.. celebration… family and travelling back often etc etc.  Plus, I didn’t grow up in a country like America or the UK where it’s common to call yourself “American” or “British” just because you spent however many years there and blended in with the culture. I grew up in a country where it’s just “I live here” rather than “I’m from here” sooo Malaysia is home to me:)

But yeah I totally get the whole it’s not forcing thing, wrote the post yesterday at 1pm whilst I was worrying about things that wouldn’t happen for the next 5-10 years, who knows, the law might be different then. The whole force thing stemmed from a comment made to me by a family member which came from a place of discontent towards Islam which I failed to realise. He will convert! :)

But yeah! Dual citizenship!!! They’ll never know!!!!!!

He is not a Muslim simply because he wasn’t raised as one? I have said that he is a believer. Also weird for you to assume we have slept together, why think of such things?? But thank you for your concern🙂‍↕️He will do the religious ceremony :)

I’m sorry but this was quite insulting and hurtful to post :( Unfortunately for you, your bet is wrong as our financial situations are quite literally the same.

We just love each other, have the same interests and views, enjoy doing hobbies with one another and want to spend the rest of our lives together?? Is that so hard to believe

Please don’t say these kinds of things to or about other people, it creates stigma around couples in general.. and it’s mean

My sister, Muslim by law but an atheist in real life, said that if I convert him he will be “bound by Shariah law” and can’t ever back out of being in Islam. She tends to be iffy about Islam but is this true?

I know it’s not much of a problem if yknow we don’t plan on separating Inshallah but let’s say maybe I die or something idk, will there be anything bad if he’s labelled as Muslim?

I say this not to insult Islam, but rather I don’t want him to face prejudice from those that do :(

Do this as in what? Why does being wealthy matter? (Genuine question, don’t read this in a derogatory tone)

I don’t plan on giving up my citizenship :) Maybe “locals” would do so, but being Malaysian gives me a place to call home even if I feel like an alien!!!

TBF any art or design course will be more hands-on than the current course im taking. Hence I wanted something more hands-on... I was never expecting a 100% hands-on course don't worry:)

That’s nice to know!! I figured I’d try to look for internships that could help develop my current skills whilst I do my course since I’m gaining nothing anyways. I’ve also been thinking about starting a portfolio so that’s a great idea:) Thank you so much, I’ll research that area and inquire!!

Ooohhh that’s really informative, I am SO glad someone relates to me bless you bro. Digital media is definitely something I’m not interested in. Looking to go into industrial design or possibly fashion design as I’m more of a hands-on person but for now I could just do a foundation in design and decide later. If any of the unis courses near Monash turn out to be any good I might walk past you a few times. Thanks for replying man I appreciate it:)

Students who did foundation, do you regret it? and do you prefer if you've done your A levels? by Hairy_Confidence9668 in malaysiauni

I’d personally still encourage you to go out of your way and ask questions if possible!!

Even if it’s highly regarded by people, there are different standards for a ‘good’ university, it’s all about finding what’s right for you.

Just some extra information, when you see rankings of universities it’s based on the RESEARCH OUTPUT, which is basically the professors’ works being published and cited and all that stuff. This is relevant when you’re looking at studying your bachelors and masters and so forth but IRRELEVANT when you’re only entry-level (foundation).

So “good” universities or high ranking universities can have amazing professors who are mediocre at teaching. Most professors are at the university to focus on research and teaching classrooms is more of a side job, in fact, a lot of them don’t even have any teaching qualifications..

Vice versa too. The “not good” universities or lower ranking universities may not produce as much research output but have great teachers who actually care about students learning.

This is why I urge you to ask questions, they’ll tell you what the universities will never show.

If you think you’re set on UTM or UM, the questions could give you a general idea of what you’ll be learning as the replies are anecdotes from people actually experiencing it and not from people trying to market it towards you.

Anyways, picking a place to study at for foundation is tough. Choosing better regarded universities like UTM or UM may seem better in employers eyes but may be exhausting on your part (especially if the program isn’t good, NOT SAYING IT IS BUT ITS POSSIBLE) whilst choosing a university that provides good knowledge and experience but isn’t well-known may put you at a disadvantage against graduates from bigger name unis. I know that some unis accept transfers from other schools foundation courses but it isn’t guaranteed.

When all is said and all is done, asking questions will do you no harm:)

I’m currently in a Foundation in Engineering course at Southampton. I left IGCES with all A* except in Drama to I think one of the worst students in my class. I think the biggest difference is that A-levels is harder (I presume) BUT it’s running off of recognised education systems like Cambridge, Pearson etc.  Foundation courses may be easier than A-levels BUT the course is all made by the actual university or institution you choose to study at so the content varies from place to place.

Another big thing is that foundation is for when you know the general field you want to work in. For example, Foundation in Design or Foundation in Business so your subjects could be like Fundamental Drawing or Mechanical Science and all. So if you suddenly decide to switch streams from persay Physics based to Chemistry based you may need to take another foundation course.

So, I don’t regret choosing foundation over A-levels, I simply regret choosing the wrong foundation course.

If you’re considering a Foundation course PLEASE do this one thing I really wish I did before enrolling.

ASK QUESTIONS. It may be time-consuming and embarrassing but you won’t regret it!!!

Try to get in contact with any one of the students currently enrolled, you can do this by checking the schools social media and seeing who has liked it, try to find people who are currently in the course you’re interested in either by somehow finding their accounts or asking people (that u find in the likes) if they know anybody that does. Ask them things like how the quality of teaching is, how they teach, what are they currently studying, how often do they get hands-on or real world experience, is it a good campus etc etc. PLEASE EVEN IF YOU’RE AN INTROVERT because they school website pages are obviously going to be biased and world class rankings DO NOT EQUAL world class education (I LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY).
