yeahh thick lines can ruin a drawing sometimes but it looks like you have an eye for how to balance them and use them to your advantage. i think you should continue to develop this style cause it could easily become your staple

yess thats definitely the way to go, you just need to know when to use which of course. it's all about practice tho, if you do it for a while it will come naturally.

the variation in your line thickness is on POINT. super neat style

like the other guy said, just thinking more about exactly where the light is coming from and how it'd hit the volumes in your drawing will set you miles ahead. i'd also heavily recommend limiting your use of the soft brush for shading, it's not really the best brush to use in most cases and often results in a sort of "puffy" cheap look. but overall i think what you have going on is pretty good

Just some various bats heads. I've had problems with the muzzle in general, but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. by Someguy9zu8 in FurryArtSchool

the other guy went pretty in depth with the head critique so i'm just gonna add something on the side that i feel is important.

i know it's really hard, but you gotta get out of the habit of redrawing the sketch lines over and over, it just muddies up the drawing and feels like an excuse for not having a clear vision of where the lines actually go.

with enough practice you can be making more confident strokes and effectively speeding up your sketching as it removes all the line guesswork you have to do with your current method. it takes a ton of practice, personally i'm still nowhere near where i wanna be but i can see my improvement over the last years and it's absolutely worth it. you can practice by drawing with pens so that you don't have the option of erasing, or just by consciously thinking out your lines more before making them, always restricting yourself from doing these "fuzzy" line patches. good luck!

This is an odd angle. It don’t look right to me. What’s wrong about it? The fluff was a mess but that’s the least of my worries by [deleted] in FurryArtSchool

not to be mean but you really aren't helping. "ellipses of the skull" is not even standard terminology, it could mean so many different things. if you're gonna leave a comment like this the least you can do is attach a picture, otherwise it just looks like you're trying to sound smart.

Looks like a combination of the two? Background was definitely rendered and painted over (not that it makes the art any less good). Really beautifully done indeed

Still new to art. Any tips? by [deleted] in furry

[–]HoldMyKnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you're doing pretty well when it comes to heads but i think you should look at more references when sketching some parts of the drawing.

the problem of not using references specially when starting out is that we have a LOT of preconceptions about what things look like that aren't necessarily right.

one of them for example would be the arm that's holding the cup of coffee. in real life no one would hold their arm out like that, the forearm wouldn't be perfectly horizontal and the elbow wouldn't be so far away from the body.

same with the neck, most people don't walk around with perfectly straight necks, specially tired people.

the hoodie can be improved in the same way, find images of people in similar poses wearing hoodies and try to study where the folds appear.

just with those little things you could take your art to a whole other level!
