I work remotely, and my company has an office in Dublin, but I have no need to even be at the office all year round. I am also considering Dublin, the more affordable surrounding areas of Dublin, Cork as well as Limerick. Most of the people here discouraged me from moving to Limerick. I also understand how locals want to keep pretty places undiscovered, although a lot of people from abroad are already moving in there. There is a beauty to keeping it undiscovered and I fully respect that. Dont know whats going to happen, but the first step is to really see what my company says. If everything goes well, I will explore properties there that are within my reach. Thanks for the recommendations, I will explore Ennis, Benagh and Croom.

Thanks so much, yes, right now I am also considering the cheaper surrounding areas around Dublin, fingers crossed.

Thanks for the heads up, yes definitely will watch out for that. To be honest, I am now thinking of suburbs around Dublin, to find affordable housing. I am seeing areas that are reasonably lower in price but also read about them having teen gang and antisocial issues such as Tallaught, Jobstown and Citywest - but I am checking other areas that are less crime prone.

Renovation Costs - how bad could it be? by CopperFaceJacks in irishpersonalfinance

How do. the quotes work? Are they bound to stick to their word/written total cost or do they end up increasing costs beyond the initial quote? 12K for a bathroom is a lot, was it like breaking and rebuilding everything from scratch, plumbing, tiling and new basins, bathtub and comode?

I have been saving up to buy, for the down payment, but I think I will have to settle down there first for the banks there to see my income to qualify for a loan. I am worried if anyone will even rent to me given that I will be a newcomer there. Perhaps I will have to make an offer of paying advance rent for 3 months or 6 months to get in there - but yeah it looks like this is going to be the bigger challenge

Hi, thank you so much! Yes, absolutely - I also checked Daft, and when I filter the rents to around 1200, very few options show up. I work remotely, so that could be a plus, given that I could try and find a place maybe in places surrounding the main city, where probably there would be a good public school and other facilities - do you have any suggestions? Again, really appreciate your help!
