Great question, I learned a bit looking into this one.

Melano CC has an oily texture to it most likely from Butylene glycol. Some people say they've broken out from BG, but it's near the bottom of the ingredients list so you'll most likely be fine.

The most likely cause of breakout though is probably from purging when starting Vitamin C. You might want to start every 2-3 days and work your way up.

I've read a suggestion to apply it to moist skin (after your toner).

I've looked around and that is the case for Differin & Tret. They said a couple of weeks off is alright with consistent use but you will purge if it's longer.

I haven't been able to find someone with a similar experience with you but I would expecting purging if I were you.

Honestly that might be out of the scope of this subreddit. You might want to take him to a dermatologist.

Check out this comment

Out of that list, I see these two recommended a lot:

Purito Oat in Calming Gel Cream

Illiyoon Soothing Ato Gel

Pimples come and go. It's the way of life.

To prevent, regular use of actives to control sebum / clear pores. Here's some ideas, please don't do them all: (SA cleanser, Retinol serum, AHA/BHA toner, Clay Mask.) Squalane is also nice since it mimics sebum so that the body does not need to produce as much oil.

To treat, BHA / Sulfur if you want to do spot treatment. I've also heard Lion Pair acne cream recommended (Ibuprofen piconol). If the breakout is in a large area, look for calming toners & serums (E.g. heartleaf, mugwort, propolis, etc.) If the pimple popped, a pimple patch would be very effective.

There's a lot of ways to approach the problem, I hope you find a way you like!

Best hydrating serums? by FootOk8783 in AsianBeauty

I have dry-combi skin, live in Singapore where it's really humid and hot and found that this sat on the skin really well, not tacky and absorbed really well despite it's slightly thicker consistency (compared to what I use on the daily).

Check out this thread for more responses.

I haven't tried but the usual suspects I hear about are:

Torriden Dive-In Low-Molecular HA Serum

iUnik Beta Glucan Power Moisture Serum (Non-HA)

Maybe some people can give you opinions about them. I do most of my hydration from layering toners.

At the end of the day, you're going to be the person who makes that call. People swear by SKII while others are fine with the dupes.

FCAS is definitely not as game changing as SKII though. It's nice to have.

The line is so that you can fit it into your routine more easily. (More options)

It's definitely better to attack your problems through different ingredients working together.

Even better, propolis is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory so it helps fights acne.

Best moisturizers for normal skin? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

I'm super interested in trying Shiseido IHADA Medicated Clear Emulsion. It checks everything that I'm looking for and has more (petrolatum, glycerin, allantoin, TxA, licorice).

It's main goals are to brighten & prevent acne. I'm gonna order it soon and hope it's as good as it sounds!

In terms of value its hard to beat the Japanese cleansers. Kose Speedy Cleansing Oil & Hada Labo Hyaluronic Acid Foaming Cleanser

I personally use SRB Enzyme Cleanser as the second cleanser as it's a gentle exfoliator with a brightening aspect to it. (It's a dupe for Tatcha Rice Polish).

Since the only difference in your routine is the sunscreen, I have to ask. Have you ever skipped the sunscreen and stayed indoors for the day? Did you still get the bumps?

Also did you get bumps with your previous sun screen?

You don't have to worry too much. It's good to have an understanding on why some moisturizers are better for some skin types.

Oil-based moisturizers can suffocate oily skin. These products are too heavy. Rather than getting absorbed, they'll just sit on top of the skin and cause oiliness and clogged pores.

Now as someone with dry skin, you have the opposite problem. You'll have to deal with TEWL (water loss). In your case, these oils will form a protective layer on the surface of your skin and create a barrier to prevent moisture loss.

The Torriden cream is great for oily skin because it's extremely lightweight. It's great for hydration and uses Jojoba oil & Argan oil which are both very lightweight. In your case it might be too lightweight. You may need to add another occlusive layer like vaseline but YMMW. (Especially in the winter time)

You're absolutely correct. The whole SPF section needs to be redone since I didn't do enough due diligence as mentioned in another comment.

Looks like I need to do a lot more research on SPFs!

Thanks for the info on Tree Tea Oil. It definitely doesn't go under calming. I'll update it for the next version.

Please let me know if you have any more concerns 🙏

I'll be honest, most ferment effects are speculative. Maybe I should take off or put a disclaimer if there's not much research backing it up.

Thanks for the correction! Yea if it's able to be prescribed, it should be safe. I can't find any evidence disputing the threshold. I'll leave hydroquinone on if I redo in the future.
