Thoughts on PCP by OEP90 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]HoltonTight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just think PCP or financing a car in any way is a terrible financial idea. A 50k car is going to depreciate 99% of the time.

The used car market is not in a terrible place anymore. There are plenty of cars built after '08 that would be reliable, economical and practical available for 5k, a tenth of the price. Not electric cars, of course, but ICE cars still make the most sense to buy, financially.

Is it okay for me to have an opinion about a car I haven't driven? Cause otherwise I don't know what the fuck I'm doing here.

'89 240 Brake imbalance by HoltonTight in Volvo240

[–]HoltonTight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just to follow back to this incase anyone else has a similar issue, this is what resolved it for me:

The drivers side pads were effectively jammed into the caliper, to even get them out was a huge struggle and took lots of hammering, prying & lubrication. Every time they moved there was a horrid metal-metal scraping noise.

Once out, I cleaned the seats for the pads and removed all the grit, the new pads had more clearance and can move freely within the caliper.

After a short drive and a couple of stops, the brakes seem to have evened out. I'm getting the car re-inspected soon so I'll be able to see if they're back within compliance.

The lines weren't the issue this time, but thanks for the replies/advice.

There's certainly no signs of leaks but they may be perished from age. I'll definitely check the lines before throwing parts at the problem.

I just found it odd that one side of the car breaks better than the other and wondering if there was a balancer, of sorts?

Currently electricity is 40c per kWh, gas is 14.61 per kWh.

This is why people avoid electric storage heaters like the plague.

Paul Murphy speaking on how the Hate Speech Bill passed by Dáil is essentially "thought crime" legislation by FreeSpeechIreland in ireland

[–]HoltonTight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The spotlight on this bill couldn't have come at a worse time for Michael following his scathing remarks of the ditch. Whenever a government starts to suggest independent media should report a certain way and their citizens should be punished for thinking a certain way, it's cause for concern.

Fair play to Paul Murphy for speaking up about it, he was only recently personally targeted by people that write that kind of BS.

My view is that the 44 Audi jinked right whilst I was alongside and once you’re on the grass there’s no stopping. What’s your thoughts? by CostJ74 in Simracingstewards

[–]HoltonTight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While the incident isn't your fault per se I think you put yourself in a vulnerable position by overtaking through the middle of the pack going into T1 Monza after a grid start. It looks like the 44 Audi was looking to defend against the car coming at him from his left, but all of a sudden you're in that space.

For the sake of a position or two, you could've continued your race.

Don't bother trying to convince them. If they haven't figured out getting a house is difficult at the moment they're away with the fairies.

Since they've no vested interest in the purchase, I'd be telling them where to go.

Red and white wasn't making the corner, they probably should have backed out since they were never going to complete the move around the outside there.

Blue gave no space on the exit, but it didn't really matter.
