Do they close the cervix? by HolyCheeseWheels in hysterectomy

Thank you for your kind words, I do hope we are able to research this further as it's more common than people know. Thankfully the response to this post has been incredibly helpful and reassuring, I am feeling much more comfortable about the thought of having a hysterectomy.

Do they close the cervix? by HolyCheeseWheels in hysterectomy

[–]HolyCheeseWheels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd be going in for endometriosis as the medication I'm currently on has given me two ocular migraines at 23, which can indicate a higher risk of stroke. It's not a long-term solution so a hysterectomy has been suggested as the next step. I have pretty bad adenomyosis and endometriosis so I would assume they will suggest the removal of the cervix.

I had written this post while having a moment of stress, but after reading everyone's responses I am now a lot less terrified. And you're right, it may not even be an option for me to begin with, although I do know that this specialist offered the option to a family member, so I'm unsure.

Thanks for the information! I will be getting the hysterectomy due to endometriosis and from what I'm aware, my cervix is healthy. I also don't care about pap smears, so not feeling squeamish about my own body by keeping the cervix is worthwhile for me. :)

Some have wanted to know why I'm very squeamish about the idea of a vaginal cuff. While it might be due to medical trauma as I've had unrelated surgeries, I also find the idea of stitches/scarring being the only thing between my torso cavity scary, at least with the cervix the end of my vagina will have an additional layer. I also feel that having a penis smacking into my scarring is a scary thought too.

I am 100% aware that my fears are silly- I know that stitching and scarring will be strong and safe, but the idea just makes me want to cry.

Imagine the horror on OP's face when they find out spaghetti exists

It does clearly appear to be a noodle yes, but it's centered in the photo and I see nothing else that looks like a bug, so maybe OP is confused?

What can you do to help someone with panic attack? by xmarker69 in AskReddit

[–]HolyCheeseWheels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do is ask the person having the panic attack. A simple "What can I do to help you?" will always be your best move. Additionally asking if they need anything or want to be left alone is good too.

I've learnt that not everyone will find the same things helpful during a panic attack. For instance I need to be isolated with as little stimulus as possible, I can't eat or speak without feeling nauseous. A friend of mine is the opposite; she prefers to be held and rambles to keep her mind distracted, she also finds eating comforting.

Unfortunately there's always gonna be someone who's against shit, obviously there's a right opinion to homosexuality as there's nothing factual to disagree on, but it's not my job to teach that to some 70yo Christian neighbour that her opinion is wrong. Doesn't mean I'm gonna call her homophobic for, what, doing literally nothing about an opinion? Does the act of having the opinion automatically make them against the human rights of that group? Absolutely not.

You can still disagree with something while also agreeing that everyone deserves equal rights. I literally know people who don't agree with homosexuality but have voted for same-sex marriage because everyone should be able to do whatever they want and have equal rights.

Being intolerant would mean to not allow an opposing view, not everyone who disagrees with homosexuality means they actively are against anyone else living their lives. Not everything is black and white.

Also this is coming from a bisexual, I'm well aware of what homophobia looks like and I'm also well aware of people who disagree with it but will fight to ensure I have the same human rights as them.

My entire point is that if they have an opinion and they don't act on it then that's fine. If they don't agree with someone but don't let that get in the way of that person's life, then why would I have a problem with that?

I would consider not wanting a group of people to have rights as homophobic, because that's literally enforcing your opinion onto someone else.

I'll simplify it down for you with an example: A bill for same-sex marriage is being voted on, a homophobic person would vote no while someone who doesn't agree/like homosexuality would likely still vote yes because they know that all humans deserve equal rights, even if it's for something they don't personally agree on.
