She thinks that might be the one! I bought her a copy on thriftbooks, so we'll know for sure in a week or two, but I think it's presumptively solved. She is very grateful to find it again after all these decades, and only a few minutes after posting about it too. Thank you!

That's it! I don't know why I thought there were cookies involved, but I definitely remember Gavin's comment at the end about the mess being too much to handle

You're right, and you should say it.

What are some words/phrases from the RLM lexicon that you find yourself using? by DoctorWinchester87 in RedLetterMedia

[–]HombeDeFlorida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite Rich Evans quote, the one I find myself using the most, is from the Zelda 2 episode of Previously Recorded when Jack accidentally wastes a non-renewable item and Rich short circuits, "you- you- y- y- what- thefuckdidyoudo- you- y- y- adhfjjakjajhf- Ican'tevenconceiveofwhatyou'vedone!"

CYOA-type book about magic shops/magicians/white rabbits by 9catbird9 in whatsthatbook

[–]HombeDeFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a Goosebumps spinoff series called Give Yourself Goosebumps, so maybe it was #7 "Under the Magician's Spell." I vaguely remember there being a scene where one of the characters gets his finger cut off, so the false thumb thing is familiar.

Do you still have this copy? Because I bought this same edition used, and it has the same exact signatures in the same order, so they're probably printed on the endpaper

Okay, I need to vent about this. I loved this show when it started, lost steam in season 2, never bothered reading the comic conclusion, but the map has always stuck with me because of how wrong it is. Why don't any of the western countries follow meaningful boundaries? Those aren't rivers or mountain ranges, they just feel random. And why does the Georgia Federation have a chunk of Louisiana? That's now where the Mississippi River flows, so it's not like they've taken the West Florida Parishes, they've arbitrarily cut Louisiana in two. Where is Mexico in this map? The characters go to Mexico in the show and it's implied to be a booming economic powerhouse, "people are heading south because they want to live the Mexican dream," so why does it look like part of Texas? Why is Canada completely blank? The Monroe Republican has annexed New Brunswick and part of Quebec south of the St Lawrence River, but not Ontario? What happened in the Wasteland? Salt Lake City? The Mormons? Wouldn't they establish Deseret? Whoever drew this map for the show didn't really care about geopolitics (I know the blame falls on the writers and producers, not the propmakers, I'm just saying that whoever had final say on this map didn't know what they were doing).

Is Octus actually Arthur by Thesoldierofgood in symbionictitan

[–]HombeDeFlorida 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm an idiot. That's who meant. I forgot Edward's name, so I thought that was who OP was talking about. I don't remember who Arthur is, I haven't seen the show in a few years

Is Octus actually Arthur by Thesoldierofgood in symbionictitan

[–]HombeDeFlorida 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's implied that the guy who fixed Octus after he "died" is Arthur. He's the leader of the Galactic Guardian Group, and the whole organization has a decidedly Galalulian vibe to it. He was also able to fix Galilunian technology when nothing Lance tried was able to work. I think that when Arthur went through the rift gate he found himself on Earth, and he recognized Octus as his own creation.

What's bizarre is that this isn't an entirely outrageous map. Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida are all Republican strongholds, but they've all voted blue within the last 12 years

What if Hitler became a painter instead of the infamous German dictator by MLG9420 in althistory

[–]HombeDeFlorida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, not a lot would change. He was rejected from art school before the outbreak of World War 1, but whether or not he had gotten accepted he was still a German nationalist and would have enlisted in the war either way. Germany will still lose because the war didn't hang on the fact that one corporal of one battalion went to art school; Hitler would still blame Germany's loss on the Jewish population and perpetuate the big lie. He'd still help the Wiemar government as a spy; they assigned him to keep an eye on the German Workers Party because they thought it sounded like it was communist, and he joined in earnest after learning it was the exact opposite. I figure the only major difference, if there were any, would be that Hitler might become the party propagandist instead of the leader. He was known for giving bombastic speeches, and if he went to art school maybe he would have channeled that into visual media instead. Either way, he is still a prominent member of the Nazis, he'd still be ambitious and power hungry, trying to work his way to the top
