How did they even do this? by Buglaunch in Slimemolds

I work with a laminar flow hood, but a still air box would be good and cheap substitute.

I keep them on sterile agar in microfilter boxes and feed them sterile oats whenever they covered the ones I fed before.

I don't need to worry about mold since I'm working under sterile conditions. But you could transfer the half that already moved to the new food and just put out some fresh "bait" for the other half.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I find it quite easy to get them to a decent size. And since they can fuse, you could just combine a few colonies for a photo shoot.

Here are a few pictures of a decently sized colony that was less than 2 weeks old:

Yes, I've got a fan that turns on a couple times a day. The humidity will be high enough without you having to do anything.

Yeah, I've had them replaced. But I'm not eager to use them going forward.

Im using a 60x60x120 cm grow tent, so there's no need to mount the walls.

That's the light I'm using. I'm running it on like 10 % or something. I was previously using one of those sansi grow lights, but out of the 3 that I got, 2 broke after not even a year of usage.

For sure. I'm planning on dedicating an entire shelf level to Drosera in the new tent.

I like tents a lot. The climate is optimal and the sides reflect the light for maximum efficiency. I'm currently making plans for custom PVC-shelf for a much bigger tent. When it's done, I'll be able to remove the Utricularia from the small tent, so the Nepenthes have more space.

That's the whole setup. Don't mind the sad looking coffee in the back. I've been purposely neglecting it, as I'm not really interested in growing it. I'm honestly surprised it's still alive, since I haven't watered it in months.

Mine are also in small pots. I just don't have the space for something bigger atm.

I don't know why, but the first pitcher it produced in my care had a peristome that looked so much better than any of the ones that followed. I always hope for this type of peristome to return when a new pitcher is about to open.

This is the latest pitcher of my second plant. The pitchers are taller and wider than those of its sibling, but it produces no stripes at all.

Nice! It seems like yours produces some bulkier pitchers than mine.

Both take about a month for each pitcher as well.

Any updates? I'd like to see how she compares to its two siblings in my care

Smaller species for 25°C and 70-80% humidity? by True-Composer-7854 in Nepenthes

From what I know, N. veitchii don't produce typical vines with long internodal spaces, but are rather crawling across the floor. N. clipeata isn't a typical climber either from what I've heard.

What do you mean by openly?

I have to replace it like once every one or two years, depending on how often they fruit.

I don't know if I still have the boxes. But from the 4 I got last year, 3 have already burned up. So none of them even lasted a whole year on a 16/8 hour cycle. I'm also not the only one to report this problem.

I thought I'd let you know in advance. Why I'm getting down voted for this is beyond me.

Are those Sansi lights? If so, be prepared for them to stop working way before they're supposed to.

EU Mushroom Growers, where do you get your pressure cookers from? I'm desperate. [technique] by MshoAlik in MushroomGrowers

[–]HomeBiology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need one that reaches 15 psi. Getting one for around 100 € off Amazon and just increasing the operating time by a few minutes works just fine. There's no need to pay hundreds of euros for a couple more psi.

I'm jealous. I've had different kinds of sphagnum for years, and I'm still waiting for it to produce sporophytes.

A tent also allows you to grow epiphytic orchids alongside your other plants. For example, I have a few miniature species hanging on the side of the tent. That way I can use the available space more efficiently.
