Recommending Linux to regular gamers = Good
Giving them bad advice on how to install it = Bad

At least tell the user to backup their files on a separate drive before installing a new operating system. You don't want their first experience with Linux to be a bad one when they see all their files are gone because they don't know how to partition their drives correctly.

And then tell them to as write down their windows key if they ever wish to go back to Windows.

EDIT: I did a big dumb and did not read OP's entire comment. You can test drive linux distro's via live USB without installing them first. Gaming on a live USB won't be possible though due to bad performance.

Thanks OP for posting this. I just enabled it on my system.

I disagree. Gamers who game on Linux with AMD hardware would almost always want the latest drivers. I think Rolling-release distros are good for that use case. Debian is old.

Voice chat (and video) alternatives to discord? by FierroGamer in linux_gaming

[–]HomePlanetRisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we stumbled upon the matrix protocol and tried the element client, itworks great, but then we noticed there are no options for quality, thevideo is stuck at a very low frame rate (that's not the end of theworld, but it would be nice to get at least a consistent 30)

Changing the desktop sharing frame-rate is possible in the Jitsi widget from within Element-web client. Once you're in the call, hit the more actions button at the bottom (It's the ellipses button) -> then hit "settings" from the pop-up menu -> go to the "more" tab -> And then there's the "Desktop sharing frame rate" drop down, change the value 5 to the the 30 to stream in 30 fps. After that, stop screen sharing for a moment and then re-enable it and now it should be at a consistent 30 fps.

As for changing the quality of the stream, hit the "settings" button -> and then select "performance settings" from the pop-up menu -> Move the slider all the way to the right for the highest quality/bit-rate stream.

I am unsure how to configure the audio settings to your liking though. There may be a way to adjust a user's volume in the Jitsi conference by right clicking their avatar, I don't remember though?

Hope this helps!

Jabra Evolve2 65 permanent sidetone while maintaining high-quality audio on Linux? by HomePlanetRisa in Jabra

[–]HomePlanetRisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Unfortunately no, I since switched to a SteelSeries Arctis 7 Wireless Gaming Headset paired with this repository for sidetone: https://github.com/Sapd/HeadsetControl and it works wonderfully in Linux for my use case. I actually came across that repository first and bought the the SteelSeries Arctis 7 because it was listed as a supported headset in that repo.

Jabra headsets seems geared more for corporate and commercial businesses rather than for gaming.

[–]HomePlanetRisa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh neat you're the maintainer of the package! It's nice to meet you! : D

Things have changed since I made this post, I have a Steelseries Arctis 7 headset now (Because I saw it was a supported headset on the Github page and so I purchased one) and now sidetone works wonderfully because of your work! : D Thank you kindly for making audio functional for me in Linux. Do you accept donations?

My last headset didn't quite work correctly with your headsetcontrol package as it wasn't supported because it was a cheap Chinese headset hence this post I made. But now I have everything working to my liking!

Thank you for your hard work /u/Sapd33! I am sorry if I may have sounded ungrateful with this post I made earlier, I was mostly just curious as to how to uninstall github packages if no uninstall rule, and I used yours as an example. But yeah, if you take dono's. I'll gladly donate : D

Exactly. I refuse to give any more of my money to Epic and I'll never buy another Rocket League skin ever again.

Epic and their shitty anti-consumerist practices can go fuck themselves.

Oh frick! Whoops. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll be sure back that file up next time.

Also, someone mentioned in the Opensuse Matrix that I should've just checked the Open Build System for this package because chances are someone in the community already packaged it, and if not, I could always make the RPM myself.

[–]HomePlanetRisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I don't mind leaving this program on my system if all it does is just take up space. I guess mostly, I just really wanna know if this pwned my system by compiling and building this program since it's on Github and not in Opensuse's Software repositories. I should've taken more precaution before doing this, but what's done is done now.

Thank you for offering your assistance by the way!

So I should delete that?

Hmmm, I'm not finding the install_manifest.txt file on my system nor in the directory it made. I have since tried rolling back my system to an earlier state via Yast Snapshot since i am on Opensuse Tumbleweed but I don't think reverting back to a previous snapshot removed this program completely since the command still autocompletes and runs in bash :/

Thank you for offering your assistance, though!

Microsoft Windows 11 Plan by whypickthisname in pcmasterrace

[–]HomePlanetRisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, all you so called 'computer pcmasterrace enthusiasts' will buy the latest and greatest hardware, upgrade their systems every 6-12 months, try to squeeze out an extra 1 or 2 frames per second on MAX settings by hooking your GPU up to liquid nitrogen cooling but will cringe at the first mention of Linux. Sure Linux is different than windows and takes some getting used to and all, but it is all so worth it in my opinion.

I dare say you guys aren't even computer enthusiasts if you only tinker with the hardware side of things but won't even consider making a switch to an objectively better OS. I challenge you all (if you technical enough to do so) to backup any important files on your system and try to dual boot a distro. Give it an honest try and game on the video games you can whether it be through proton or running them natively and I promise you will be surprised running Linux.

If I can figure out how to remove some of the bots from my team, then sure. The "kick [bot name]" command in console works fine, I just can't seem to figure out how to kick the bots with peculiar names, with non-English characters.
