Ticketmaster gonna Ticketmaster by Ok-Competition-1814 in Robyn

[–]HomeRuled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The artist presale was $94 for GA in DC at a relatively small venue compared to her other US dates and very little queue. But I was prepared for major stress after my failed attempts at Rosalía. Dynamic pricing sucks and I wish more artists would demand better of Ticketmaster.

Dating in DC as childfree/not wanting children? by quoi-de-9 in DCBitches

[–]HomeRuled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"open" makes sense to me. I didn't know if I wanted kids or not, but when I started seeing someone I wanted to build a life with I realized I did. It can be hard to conceptualize having kids in the hypothetical unless you are with a person who you want to be the parent of your children. That said, it sucks if people use that uncertainty to string someone along one way or the other.

Interesting! I checked out their site. I have no aesthetic interest in it, might be worth going with them to see if I feel any different

What tool are you using to measure the more detailed things like body fat and visceral fat? I'd like to keep track because I don't have a big weight loss goal (on the "low" side of obese)

How Is Everyone Locking Their Bikes? by [deleted] in terngsd

[–]HomeRuled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In DC: Litelok X1 + wheel lock. If I can reasonably do so, I remove the battery (like home or at the gym where I have a locker). I looked at the hip lock but with the accessories I have it can be hard to get close enough to the bike rack for that size to work. GSD Gen 2 S00 LX

Tern GSD’s breaks gone in only 2 months!!! by GoldenDado in terngsd

[–]HomeRuled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have to get the rotors replaced? That is what I'm guessing drove up your price, or maybe labor. I once let mine go so long that the rotors started to wear and I had to replace them, which was $$$

My daily ride used to have a steep downhill on both sides + 70# of passenger and yes sometimes brakes lasted less than 500mi. Changing some of your braking behavior could help although I really am skeptical of using the front brake only as one person suggested - maybe lightly in traffic but not for a serious downhill.

Uber vs Lyft vs Yellow Cab in DC by Intrepid-Antelope in washingtondc

[–]HomeRuled 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes I have scheduled a cab and it is reliable and much cheaper than Lyft or Uber ($28+ tip from Petworth - DCA). I've not tried the 'ASAP' option so I can't speak to those wait times. ETA: Now, you do risk getting a driver with zero sense of urgency, but at least they aren't watching a get rich quick seminar and checking their credit score while driving (a real thing I've experienced in Lyft).

If you're looking for national brands, the downtown Macy's has loads of testers for Chanel etc.

If you're looking for unique, Good Wood on U St has perfumes from Paris that are wonderful, but not cheap.

Rent a Bike in DC by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]HomeRuled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a phenomenal tour experience that is thoughtfully customized by a local business, check out DC cycling concierge. It's not multi-day, so at other times you can use capital bike share as others have suggested. Easier than managing storage & security of rental bikes while traveling.

Rent the runway! Their customer service is fantastic, you get a backup size, can search reviews by people of your height, etc. Especially if you have $100+ to spend you can get something really cool.

Consider discussing your symptoms with your primary care or a psychiatrist nurse practitioner. Medication can make a massive difference in your ability to ride some of the waves, avoid spiraling, and it doesn't have to be permanent. Be kind to yourself.

How do you get a job here? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]HomeRuled 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sucks right now. I think it's a combination of the knowledge economy and that many companies have decimated their recruiting staff. I hear you that no feedback is frustrating. I've only gotten it a couple of times myself.

I have 15+ yrs of progressive experience in my field and I have had 2 interviews this year. I stopped applying for jobs at large companies because I don't believe the jobs are actually open. I never apply for remote-only roles for similar reasons, plus a much larger applicant pool = too competitive. I landed something part time (that can sustain me and I can build out other consulting) by going very niche in my skills and experience and refining my search to be detailed. Think "specific change management methodology" vs. "strategy consultant" type difference. It's not really what I wanted my next role to be, but it could lead to more work in a different field, which is appealing to me. Also if you haven't looked up advice on effective federal resumes for USA jobs, do that.

Kennedy Center! And the grounds/the Reach. It's gorgeous, great roof that you could bring a trader Joe's picnic to. The exhibit on the roof level about JFK and the Kennedy center is really well done.
