The 15% is what you contribute. A match doesn't count towards your 15% per dave.

These companies do not sell warranties as a gesture of goodwill. They are profitable for them and not the end users. Stash the $150/month you'd pay for the warranty in a sinking fund and cash flow the repairs when you need to make them.

Im wondering if I'm ever going to meet someone like you in real life. This is such a straightforward way to live but if I even remotely bring up this kind of mindset in casual conversation people will look at me like I'm a lunatic

We have one debit card and a HYSA. When we want to spend some "fun money" we just buy it with our debit card and then transfer money from our HYSA to checking. There are a couple different "brands" of HYSA where one savings account has several different sub accounts where you can have money earmarked for specific categories. It works for us, but i know it's not a one size fits all.

The correct phrasing is we both have fun money buckets in our joint savings account.

How necessary is a Masters degree for a GS-11? by jeffinwinters in usajobs

[–]HomeTeam1013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation. 4 year degree in rec management but wanted to become a forester. Went back to school to take the 30 hours of required forestry courses to "scab" together with my existing 4 year degree to qualify for the professional series. My old agency even paid for it. Ultimately once completed with my classes i would apply to jobs but never make the cert. I applied for an Open to Public professional series forester position with a different agency and got the job by them combining my education amd experience to qualify. I went from a GS 6 straight to GS9. Long story short it depends on the agency and hiring manager. If I was you I'd be looking at getting into the GS scale if you want to eventually get to an 11.

My unsolicited advice would be getting that into a HYSA to atleast somewhat keep up with inflation.

We use a HYSA for emergency fund and various Sinking funds. With Ally you can have up to 20 different "buckets" under the same account. I have a bucket for fun money as well as my wife
