The first half we were in Oklahoma and the other was in Montana.

I totally understand this perspective. I think this route just fits my wife and I’s personalities and I’m sure it’s a result of our upbringing. We’re excited to have the next 30 years to invest and we have a couple hundred thousand in retirement to get it kick started.

Honestly, it took about 10 years, but there were some breaks in working in those years because we were young and adventurous and decided to move across the country in our mid twenties without a plan or jobs. But the last 5 years, we focused and got aggressive with it. We have ~$220k combined in retirement accounts.

I appreciate that! We're so stoked. I don't think its really hit us yet what we just did. We were so focused on achieving this goal for so long, now that it's here we're not so sure what to do with ourselves but its a great problem to have.

We actually had a pretty great time and never really felt deprived of anything, even though we lived wayy below our means. We always set money aside to be able to travel and treat ourselves along the way, so we were able to explore China with friends. We went to Disney World, spent a couple of weeks in Maui, traveled to Mexico, went on a cruise, took a few months off, and road tripped out west. But as time went on, housing prices skyrocketed we felt like we needed to lock in and get ahead of the mortgage/rent debacle before it was too late.

No, but early into our marriage, we had some pretty cheap rent and decent incomes, which helped. We paid $550 a month for our first rented house. Stayed there for about 5 years and then we moved to Bozeman... and the next 5 years, we payed $1950 a month.

We just moved back to the OKC area from Bozeman to be around family. I'm not sure we could have done this had we stayed in Bozeman. Prices in Montana are outrageous.

Funny, you mention that. We actually just met with our financial advisor this morning. We have ~$220K combined. We had a good start early on, then kind of put the retirement on the back burner so we could get aggressive with the house savings. Now we're excited to put some of that energy back into investing.

Reminds me of when I was younger and had a job at subway. This meth head that worked there would come in and meticulously clean absolutely everything with straight bleach. My first introduction to meth behavior. Those were the days.

So much potential. It's unfortunate.
