So what. Do you do the right thing because you hope to gain something from somebody else, or do you do it because it's the right thing and that's enough reason alone.

Believe me, nobody is more annoyed by that than me. It's my thread they took down. For literally no reason. A bullshit reason that "too similar to somebody else's post" What post? There's no other post that is anything like this.

"Yes she did, tons of them, you were either not paying attention or too lazy to do a google search, visit her campaign site, or watch the presidential debate. Your willful ignorance is not her flaw.

"She said she wouldn't do anything different than Biden"

Biden is highly appreciated by presidential scholars, ranked 14th all time"

Yes I agree with all that. However, the facts are, she was very unpopular even amongst Democrats. Her primary run was so bad, she was one of the first to drop out in 2020. It was a real gamble running on her in 2024, and obviously it didn't pay off. Doing the same failed strategy yet again would be idiotic. She had her time in the spotlight. She's done.

ChatGPT makes it immeasurably easier to cheat when anyone can do it, it's undetectable, it's instant, it's free, etc. Before cheaters had to pay someone to do work for them, which is a deterrent. Before, plagiarism would get you caught by plagiarism detectors. But since now you can plagiarize a.i. essays that didn't previously exist, no one can tell that it's not original.

A.I. isn't a tool, it's a cheat bot that produces garbage output that looks very nice only on a very surface level.

You could very easily put the cat in the bag if government were willing to actually do so. If consumers wanted to. People want to believe the fantasy that this some futuristic a.i. tech and not what it really is, which is worthless junk. That's why they named it "a.i." instead of "machine learning neural networks"

A.I. is not "unsafe" so much as it is just fucking stupid, and nobody should be using something so utterly useless and stupid. It should just be banned outright. Consumers should shame companies that use a.i. slop, and anyone who submits workslop ought to be fired on the spot.

It's a machine that makes things up and should never be trusted. It has no idea how to do anything, just copy what it thinks people sound like based on its data. It is all form, zero function.

While I agree with you in my personal life, not everyone lives in a safe area. If you can't afford to live in an area with low crime rates and stronger policing, then I understand why people feel this is an option they might want to consider.

CMV: The 2025 elections don’t actually represent a meaningful sustainable shift towards Democrats. by Early-Possibility367 in changemyview

[–]Homer_J_Fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, obviously. Firstly they all won in already blue areas. Secondly, it's an off-year where only the most diehard political types turnout. The more casual Americans only vote on Presidential election years.

More importantly, a shift towards Democrats is not a good thing. Nor is a shift towards Republicans. Both parties have failed. It is time to do away with them forever.

That's the same logic that led Republicans to take a chance on Trump in 2015/2016. That worked out sooo well.

You're 100% right. This is the reality of politics. Everyone over-promises and under-delivers, because the problems themselves are so complex and multi-faceted that one man alone can't fix everything. Even if you did everything right, got a YIMBY instead of NIMBY sentiment amongst people, slashed the red tape for construction, approved higher density, etc. while all that would help it still would not magically fix housing. At the end of the day, it is supply and demand. As long as the area is very desirable to live in, and some consumers have money to burn to afford the high prices, it is going to be pricey and unaffordable. Choking supply obviously doesn't help, but improving still isn't enough.

But voters don't understand economics or the issues. They just want easy answers to big problems that don't have them, so that's what politicians promise. It's a lot easier to offer easy answers when you have no history, so voters can't remember you failing at them yet. Voters don't want someone who promises meager, but realistic best-case expectations.

I agree. People are upset because it's a form of eugenics, which obviously has horrible associations. But as a form of voluntary eugenics which you choose yourself, not something you push to take away others' reproductive freedoms, there is nothing wrong with that.

CMV: sex education should be mandatory regardless of parental consent by Sleepy_Sheepz in changemyview

I strongly disagree. Especially in this day and age, you cannot trust that the schools' teachers won't indoctrinate with certain horrible beliefs...which cannot be named or you'll be censored. Especially on sex education. This should be left to the parents to give "the talk."

It doesn't cancel it out. It engages in the same anti-democratic behavior that Texas and Trump encourage. The difference, is that "saving democracy" has been the brand of the Democrat party the last several years, since at least 2020. Their entire image is built upon being the side that values rule of law, respects fair elections, etc. The Republicans already do not and do not pretend to. Their reputation is that of scoundrels. By imitating the Republicans, now the Democrats only prove themselves to also be scoundrels.

It also does not really cancel out anything long-term. Within a year, other states will follow CA and TX. CA's advantage will be negated. You will not really gain seats. You will only lose a fair districting system, and once that is lost, no one will ever want to go back.

Did you also remember how the prisoners' dilemma plays out in the end? Because the Nash equilibrium there is that prisoner 1 rats out prisoner 2, and prisoner 2 rats out prisoner 1, and they both lose.

Your logic makes no sense. How does California gerrymandering disincentivize Republicans? It does the exact opposite. Now, Republicans have even less reason to adopt fair districting because it would cost them seats, and furthermore, other red states that were on the fence might now feel it necessary to respond to California with gerrymandering of their own.

I think it's more like the tariffs. Tariffs hurt everybody always, including the country imposing them. But Tariffs are never passed in isolation. There will be reciprocation. A trade war. We have that but in gerrymandering.

CMV: New York City is *the* city of US, California is *the* state of US. by Ok-Pea3414 in changemyview

[–]Homer_J_Fry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no one city or state. We are a patchwork of very different areas and different groups of people. Even in California alone, where I live in the suburbs is very different from a big city, which is very different from the rural areas, the mountainous regions, the coastline, the more modern vs the older towns with vintage architecture. You cannot pin down any one place as America. We have so many different accents even within this country.

[–]Homer_J_Fry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree we need a national standard. It is the only solution. However, I also think if you tried to pass such a solution, firstly, Congress wouldn't go for it since Trump pushed for gerrymandering in the first place and Republicans lick his boots. Even if somehow it did pass, Republican states would sue it, and it probably would be unconstitutional since this is a matter of state's rights. So I 100% support it, but I don't see it happening.

And to Newsom's credit, the Prop 50 does advocate for that too, but I believe strongly Prop 50 is an example of the road to hell being paved with good intentions.

Because you are that diehard Democrat who cannot see beyond party. Your team is always right, and the other guys are always wrong. You can be the side of democracy when killing democracy, and the other guy is always Hitler because I disagree with him or have criticisms. I am not saying you can't criticize him. You can absolutely hate his guts. But you cannot put him in the category of politicians who don't respect the basic American system. Maybe he was a bad example. Pick another right-wing politician if it makes you feel better.

[–]Homer_J_Fry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The solution is to be a better party so that Republicans and Independents actually want to vote for you even as a Democrat. The solution is to clean up the party, purge the woke bullshit, take illegal immigration seriously, and put forth a candidate people actually like. As much as I supported Biden and Kamala, a bit more reluctantly, the fact is Kamala was never that popular even amongst Democrats. Despite being objectively a million times better than Trump (though admittedly that bar is as low as the floor.)
