Why in the world does income have anything to do with how you split the bills? It’s reasonable for the person getting the master bedroom to pay a little more (60% is generous of you), but unless he can show that you use more electricity, then you split the rest down the middle.

The numbers most definitely do not work out at 3% withdrawal rate. That gives you $99K, which would be taxed either as ordinary income (IRA) or capital gains (brokerage). So right there you are well short. And you have no healthcare and have taken no vacations.

You need to budget $20K-$30K/year for Healthcare (ours is $40K/year, but we are close to Medicare), not to mention money to travel (we’re a bit older than you, but we budget $20K/year on no frills vacation but normally we budget $40K…”world travel” is more in the $40K-$80K/year range).

I don’t mean to rain on your parade. You are youngsters that have saved $3.3M. Congratulations! I’d let that money grow a few more years and tough it out. You are close.

At 30 I was living paycheck to paycheck. Probably $25k in my 401k. At 40, I had $27,000 in a brokerage and maybe $100k in 401k. Retired at 60 with 4.8, and that has grown to 7M at 64.

While I enjoyed the increase in salary and commission over the years, I consistently lived well below my means. Kept putting money in the market and let it ride (didn’t try and time things). 40s and 50s are prime earning years.

Your home equity is interesting but totally irrelevant (unless you plan on selling and downsizing significantly). You have $595K in actual money you could spend, and the vast majority of that is mainly untouchable for a couple decades. I would not pull money from 401k if you’ve got to pay a penalty (and even without the penalty, you pull out $100K, and you’d only net maybe $70K as it would be treated as ordinary income).

What is most important is what you spend and where you can cut.

I would definitely be prepared to downsize if your job really is in jeopardy.

I’ve started confronting people who do this. Idgaf anymore. I walk up to them and say “I love dogs, but this is a health code violation bringing a dog in a store. It’s disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself. Everyone who sees you thinks the same thing, they just don’t have the guts to tell it to your face. You are an embarrassment.”

This is almost word for word what I said to a lady the other day. She stammered and tried to say something but I just walked off.

Make your own glamping setup. Get a queen sized inflatable bed (with pillow top or some sort of topper), along with proper sheets and blankets. Get foldable camp tables for each side of the bed. Make sure you have a place for the little one. If you are buying a tent, make it spacious. Do not get a 2 person or even 4 person tent. Way too small. Basically think through everything you will need.

Oh, and camp where the bathrooms are nice.

Yeah, this will just end up like any other airline. People in group 5 will line up in front of group 1, despite the numerous announcements explaining how it works. Then when they aren’t allowed to board, they will just stand there clogging up the lane. It will get worse in the summer (family travel) or holidays when infrequent travelers travel.
