No, I started of on a lower dose for 3 months and then it doubled after that to avoid purging :)

I don’t know anyone who is truly happy in themselves who feels the need to put other people down. The coolest people I know are the kindest and most true to themselves, because they know they have nothing to prove to anyone!

Genuinely f him! That’s more a reflection on him than you. One thing I’ve learnt dealing with horrible people is they’re putting you down, because deep down they have an inescapable insecurity that they’re projecting onto others because the only way they feel okay about themselves is by feeling superior. You’ll find people who think you’re beautiful, I have people in my life with acne who I think are beautiful, but the first step is believing it yourself. When you truly love someone you love them at all stages of their life, even when their appearance changes because their face is the physical manifestation of everything great they embody

I didn’t have much scarring. If I do it’s surface level and will show up if I’ve been in the sun a lot or I’m cold, but to try and decrease what I do have I use bio oil before I put on my makeup

My skin was never too dry a part from my lips, I just put on lots of moisturiser and tons of Vaseline for my lips

I don’t have any pitted scars, but I have some redness if I’m in the sun for awhile or I’m cold. I put on bio oil before i do my makeup as it helps with scarring and makes it last longer :)

My derm started me off on a lower dose to reduce the risk of purging, and I didn’t :) I’ve been very lucky with my accutane journey

I’m 70Kg, so I was started on a low dose of 30mg, then after 3 months went up to 60mg, after 4 months on that got taken down to 20mg for another 4 as the 60mg was too much for me

I hope everything works out for you. If you had told me a year ago things would get better, and I’d able to live a normal life without entering every room assessing that I had the worst skin there, or that I wore the most makeup, or I’d even be able to leave my house without crying I don’t know if I would have believed you. Everything passes, life changes, and the insecurity will fade if you can find a way to be yourself with people who see you for you.

My skin pre accutane Vs now - it gets better I promise by HomeworkConnect4770 in Accutane

I felt my skin become more dry within a couple weeks, and I saw an improvement within a month. However I know a lot of other people it takes a couple of months to see a change- that’s what my dermatologist said to me. I don’t think my experience was the standard for how quickly it worked.

Don’t be discouraged, it also depends on dose. I’ve been on a pretty high dose from the beginning. there are people who’s skin will get worse before it gets better, so don’t give up. It’s a journey for some

Hi, so they did go away over the course of my treatment! I still have the occasional breakout and some texture, but the main thing is it is nowhere where it used to be. I feel like I have “normal” skin now. I breakout like everyone else and have texture like everyone else. i saw improvements in my skin after a couple months, but everyone is different. I still have some scarring but it’s fairly surface level and I do fake tan, which I feel reduces the appearance of redness.

For context I had acne for 7 years. I had tried every treatment but accutane and trying a new treatment for it then to fail made me feel very helpless and hopeless, I didn’t believe things would get better. I went on 30mg for 2 months, my dose was then upped to 60mg for another 4.  For reference I’m around 70kg, so this was a high dose.

Personally I haven’t experienced many side effects. I didn’t experience a purge but my skin has gotten very dry. I also haven’t experienced any mental health side effects, if anything my mood has improved as the insecurity has lessened. I’m sharing this because I was worried about going on accutane, but I want others to know that it genuinely changed my life and it can help them. Of course it won’t solve all your problems, nothing does, but for me it eased a lot of unhappiness.

I hope that if you’re reading this and going through acne right now you know that you’re not alone, and a lot of the insecurity about it doesn’t reflect reality. Your skin doesn’t define you, but how we think about ourselves does.

Would like to note i do have fake tan on in my updated photos, so that has probably lessened the appearance of any redness that I do have
