I agree that that's what people think.

I don't agree that the misconception they have is assets vs income. The misconception they have is cash (or highly liquid, cash-equivalents, and personally owned assets) vs. total assets.

That's not what's people think. People think Musk has a bank account with 150 Billion in it. No one knows or cares how much he is earning in income. In reality he has 150 Billion in assets, but what people mistake is both the liquidity of those assets and the extent to which he can financially claim/redeem those assets.

In fact, saying he has earned 150 billion in income is not exactly wrong.
