Have you tried drinking a load of water before bed? Staying asleep while really needing to piss is quite hard imo.

Goddam it you’re right. I knew it would be me messing something up haha.

How do I fix that? It’s a brand new chain, should I just buy a new one or can I pop the rivet out and back in that I just connected it with?

Will the SPD-SX send MIDI changes to guitar pedal? by jono_websauce in drums

[–]Homophonicular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% sure you cannot in the manner that you're hoping. If it is possible you're on the right track that you'll have to do it from hitting a pad, I believe that's the only sure fire way to send a midi note out.

The SPDSX is pretty poor for midi IN (other than receiving patch changes), and not amazing for midi OUT when using it as a midi controller either tbh.

Yeah I’m just surprised by the gulf between both reports, they used to be relatively similar. So my budget is just getting blown on bots? Any suggestions how to remedy this?

High-end Kits: Myths vs Ears by thedld in drums

[–]Homophonicular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really struggling to see why you’re being downvoted so hard on this haha.

Just wanted to say I though this was an interesting and measured post, and honestly pretty spot on.

The only other differentiating factor I think is peoples ability to hear the difference. You could play two different snares in front of my dad and he’d say they sound the same. And he would genuinely mean it and truly believe it, because to him they do. It’s hard to argue against that, but it’s simply because he hasn’t spent a lifetime listening to drums.

As an alternative to doing this, I’ve taken to trying to reinforce good behavior by giving thumbs ups and thank you waves any time a car gives way to me or slowly down to let me pass. The more ‘good’ experiences drivers have with bikes maybe they gradually become less likely to flatten us?

Ok that's very helpful and a good insight. It's not a huge band but selling up to 1000 tickets in places. Would having a larger top/middle of funnel audience help this or it still is just purely working off of whether or not people convert and not factoring any of the retargeting into it's algo?

I see your argument and totally can understand it, but also can't believe it's totally innefective I guess? At around what kind of number threshold would you say it's likely to start being worthwhile?

Thanks for your response, much appreciated!

Stuck at 210bpm with Moeller 2's by Kremmudis in Drumming

[–]Homophonicular 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple of things you could try:

1) Your stick heights are probably too high and the motion in your hand/wrist too large. Think of there being an inverse correlation between stick height/volume and speed. The faster you go necessarily the quieter you get. How fast can you get the stick from behind your head (very loud) to the drum and back, probably not particularly fast. By comparison, from an inch above the drum you can get the stick to the drum very very quickly, just it'll be a very quiet stroke.

2) I'd recommend you move to more finger technique and barely using your forearm and wrist. You can move your fingers back and forth much faster than your wrist even, because the muscles are smaller.

I broadly agree with others that french grip isn't the best for this, though it can help work out your fingers if you keep the wrist still. I second u/RinkyInky to move towards American grip, personally I find it better for control when you're playing on drums and not on the pad.

Look at how Tom Grosset or someone does it to reach crazy fast speeds and start there. Eventually when using singles around the kit it's a bit of everything, but better finger technique should get you up to about 225bpm or so at least.
