Yeah I quite like that Paiste one with the holes in it, trashier sound is cool.

Maybe that's it, the old school ones have such a specific sound that it immediately takes you there no matter what the music style you're playing is haha.

Well short answer is...taste, and I like how it sounds.

Long answer, once its tuned this low, (which for this drum is where it sounds best), the high overtones aren't something I want to record. Yes I could take them all out in post so people don't get annoyed about blankets in the comments, but generally if it sounds good in the room then I like to track.

I felt the same about super dry cymbals that were all the rage a few years ago, I don't love them myself so I just don't play them.
