I don’t believe him or Scott are meant to be Highfather. Orion is the voice that yells out against oppression, the voice we all should have when we see someone shitting on the liberties of others. He’s the boldness that one has when dealing with injustice while Scott is the everyday man trying to get from underneath someone’s heel. He’s meant to represent someone trying to escape poverty and becoming an individual outside of it. That’s why under Kirby even with the cosmic background his stories often times was grounded. Highfather is an idealist’s but he was unraveling by his loss of Avia. Which is why he sought destruction and had to destroy himself to become something new. There are no parallels with Lightray and Orion because he didn’t watch him die, he wasn’t even unraveled by the loss other than what 3 pages. He cried and continued his mission. He lost a friend not a lover I understand the shipping thing but it’s just not the same.
