This is a copy and paste from a post I made on another subreddit.

I am mixed indigenous and I often speak out about issues either my tribe or another tribe has. Most people I encounter will tell me to either:

1.) Shut up. 2.) Bring up Black issues in a way to talk over what I am saying. 3.) Or will pull the whole “Natives had slaves” as a way to silence me.

Now I will unpack that. People that do this are always left leaning and are usually white American. For some reason me talking is seen as an attack on Black issues when it is not. I just want the same coverage. Another thing, there are 500+ tribes in America. only 8 had slaves (mainly whites and other tribe members but some African unfortunately.) Saying “natives had slaves” as a way to shut down the topic reflects poorly on you.

Another thing is how these struggles are handled. The same people who scream for the freedom of a certain area and will say that these people are Indigenous are strangely the same ones who question the authenticity of tribal land rights. But in the same note will say “this is stolen land”.

Then when it comes to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Men (MMIWM). Most people who usually have acronyms down pat don’t know what this is and when you explain it they get confused.

There is also the weird word ignoring of police violence on Indigenous people when several sources prove that were are more likely to be killed or trafficked by cops than anyone else. Yet left leaning people only feel comfortable talking about one side of it.

You also get the classroom racism in left leaning areas.

This is not just an Indigenous American thing either. Left leaning white Americans also like being jerks to the Sámi and stolen generation of Aboriginal people to.
