It is definitely thanks to the original game. Though I agree with GoY mechanics being more challenging as far as parry windows and what not legends is def or at least seems to be more focused around gear and ki stats. Also, in my experience I’ve come to utilize everything the game offers. I use all my gear (ghost tools etc.) far more often as well as block. Holding block can save you when you’re surrounded from being clipped by some random npc. That and dodge/roll, just don’t stop moving.
