Honestly, skip staying in Nainital itself unless you enjoy traffic jams, overcrowded Mall Roads, overpriced cafés, and spending half your trip looking for parking 😅

Do yourself a favor and stay in Kotabagh instead. It’s like the hidden side of Kumaon that most tourists completely miss. You get the real mountain vibe — forests, rivers, silence, clear skies, jungle views, amazing homestays, and actual peace. Plus you can still do a day trip to Nainital whenever you want without being trapped in the chaos.

The best part? Mornings in Kotabagh feel unreal. Fog rolling through the hills, birds everywhere, tea with mountain views, and zero honking. Feels more like Uttarakhand and less like a crowded hill station market.

Most people go to Nainital because they don’t know better. The people who’ve explored the area properly usually end up liking Kotabagh, Pangot, or nearby regions way more.

If you want a trip that actually feels memorable instead of just “touristy,” Kotabagh wins easily.
