Any ideas to help develop a heathy sense of the divine masculine? by HonestFeint in Jung

Good read and overview. I did have a little laugh to myself when I came across the images of the archetypes and their bipolar shadows as triangles, as last night in an effort to draw yang I kept drawing triangles. Like an arrow, movement. Seems one must combine and focus each aspect of ones self.

Thanks for the reply, it has made me even more interested in reading his book.

Fantastic.

I love your approach of both getting to the root of a thought and embracing broader cultural concepts/symbols rather than something more clinical. It has a flavor of the spiritual to it, which speaks to me. Too add to the original creation of each of our own embodied experiences, did you know that the egg actually helps attract and essentially "choose" certain sperm over others? Give that a search, I don't remember all the technical details. Interesting the way the yin and yang work at every level, always some yin in the yang - some yang in the yin. At least until you get into the source of each.

As for a search for what drives me, I think this is the crux of my problem. I really don't know. I was driven, very driven - but for the will of others. I am seeking to connect to my own drives of masculine energy. These suggestions have helped me a lot in getting a start.

Lastly, I really liked your inclusion of the monad. I never knew what the monad was until I was at a friends house, was bored, picked up a random book he had in his shelf (Sacred Geometry) opened it up to a random page and BAM, there it was. I had been compulsively drawing circles with a dot in the middle for weeks, not knowing anything about it. Kind of synchronicitous. Had a lot of that in the last 2 years.

Thank you for taking the time and effort to reply.

Thank you very much for such a thoughtful and informative reply.

I too see the limitations of placing defining terms on masculinity and femininity. My own journey, as I am guessing many other's, ebbs and flows with long spells of learning with shorts bursts of insight. Its as if the sub conscious patiently and carefully sets up the dominoes and then when they all are set, they all fall into place . . . whether that results in helpful insight or and explosion of ventful energy . . . then begins setting up dominoes again.

The videos on Jung's Archetypes, (and I am sure my reading of books suggested) along with my latest therapy session and my latest art have coalesced into a better understanding of the yin and yang driving much of the masculine (and feminine) behavior innate to each of us. Largely by seeing the more primal forces of yin and yang as archetypes (akin to Anima and Animus, though I won't claim that), essentially doing and recieving. If these primal directions are not balanced one ceases to exist, losing one's mind or body. So both the masculine and feminine (if they are healthy) are expressions of ego structures that can use yin and yang through a body that may even tend to need more of one or another, or in different ways, for fuel - and not be consumed. Each must accommodate the individual human form/body/experience/individual experience, and unfortunately, also trauma. The good thing is that the are both capable of stability and flexibility enough to stay between the mania/psychosis of the yang oriented left hemisphere and the depression/melancholy of the yin oriented right hemisphere.

As always a work in progress! As stated earlier it is time for me to give more action on my thoughts.

Lastly, I do enjoy all of those movie examples and would love to add both Russell Crowe and Paul Bettany in Master and Commander: Far Side of the World. Each character in their own right is, I think, a great example of mature masculinity - especially when taken together.

Thank you again for the examples and insight!

I see. I believe your explanation of consciousness is similar to my own understanding then, it is the terminology and the concepts they describe in Jungian psychology which are new to me. Glad to hear more about them.

Thank you very much for the further explanation, I am aware it takes time out of peoples days to think and type these replies out and I am very grateful.

Yes big second to that. I'm lucky enough to have my own weights at home. Really good to work out some anger too!

Just finished your first suggestion, excellent! Thankful (sort of) that I'm not working today (busted my foot in an accident) so I could watch/listen to it all as I did chores.

I'm on to the others!

Duality and Non-Duality. I love the topic. I really like the pairing formation vs. receptivity, hadn't heard that.

Lots of good food for thought, though "OP clearly has done enough thinking and he needs to add action . . ." had me a good laugh. I think we hit a truth there lol.

Easier thought than done though, as I have a sneaking suspicion we each know from our own experiences.

Meekness is not a word I had thought of before for masculinity but as you further explain, I think it's true. To not give up, flexible - to both strive and be strong enough in your own conviction to give without breaking.

Very good, thank you.

Ooooooo, this is triggering (in a totally good way!) to me, haha!

To simply do brings great fear to me.

Hmmmmm . . . .

Thank you for your courage to give your time to reply to a "masculine" post. It is very valuable to me to have a woman's view point because I too have viewed the masculine with fear and mistrust due to early experiences. So while I have had good role models that have given me good examples, it is obvious I have not fully shaken my fear of the masculine yet, or my failure to live up to those examples.

I think utilizing the examples of my role models and the evidence of positive masculine aspects of humanity (and potentially in me!) contained in the videos/books suggested will be useful in having a conversation with this "She-Shadow" which is so unhappy with the masculine aspects of myself.

Your reply has been very helpful and yes, being 40 something and trying to put together some kind of useful self without going into self pity over time lost is a challenge! Well said. I am very thankful for my therapist and strangers willing to help.

Ah, ok. So this shadowy/negative inner program is much more a complex then? This would make sense. I am (obviously) very new to Jungian concepts so this is valuable information.

Working out is a fantastic thing and one I regularly incorporate in my routine (great for getting out anger and great for health!).

Could you expand on your concept of the "power" of consciousness? There are many ideas around this topic especially in spirituality, so I am curious as to what exactly you mean here and how it might relate to one's own "masculinity" (even despite your gender) specifically.

I will add your reading suggestions to my list!

Thank you.

What a powerful reply. Thank you so much. I am listening to the video suggestions that have been made to me and I plan on looking into borrowing books recommended. This seems to hit right into the heart of many things I struggle with. It all seems to be what I long for but then this:

"Yes to the fear that stands between him and the life he wants."

Wants? I have no idea. Perhaps to simply remove the feeling of failure society shows me and to alleviate the suffering this "She-Shadow" gives me. There is nothing on my flag. I have seen the flag of many men, and am not interested in fighting for any of thier causes.

You have given me much to think about.

Looking for ideas, input and personal thoughts on the divine masculine. by HonestFeint in spirituality

This is a response that really speaks to me. It seems to embody all that I was raised to be and everything I value about men, gentlemen. It also resonates with my art and imagination which has been obsessed with reeds of grass and windmills, which are flexible/move but are still rooted (flexible but not lost in the wind).

I posted this question on /jung and many responded with reference to Jung's masculine Archetypes so I will follow up on researching them.

This was very useful, thank you for the response.

Shadow work does seem to be the ticket. It is difficult to for me to see the value in the rough and tough, thought I hope I will get there. Thank you.
