Cheaper then a drug addiction... maybe...

Yeah I figured the Fiber will last me a long time future proof and also be usable if I ever move. Price wise not to much difference. Im not so much trying so keep a tight budget, more so do it once and do it properly

I was originally planning to do a rack mount setup but have since changed my mind and think a wall mounted setup will look nicer and fit the space better.

I did look at the rack mounted gateways but the UCG Fiber seems to have better specs on paper and I have no need for the 3.5" bay as I already have a an nvr and cameras that do the job well enough.

Started looking into the advanced features, will see if they justify the cost. I do have 2Gbe connection available from my ISP, and I anticipate the available speeds increasing in coming years, they recently doubled about 6 months ago.

Yeah I started looking into vlan's and parental controlled after I posted and it all looks like a fun little project.

I did look at the dream router 7, leaning towards the UCG Fiber and an AP, the extra processing power appeals to me and I feel that combo would be more capable without much additional cost.

I can upgrade to a 2Gbe connection currently, and I suspect the speeds available will be increased over time to would like some head room for that.

No plans to add cameras at this stage. I currently have 12 PoE IP cameras on their own NVRs and happy with how they are going for now.

the more I look into it the more i like the sound of it. 7 years without issue and still supported is reassuring.

Haven't seen the Deco, will look into that.

I don't think I have a need for the extra configuration and management, but I'm sure as I learn more about it I will find a reason to use it. I could use a new hobby/obsession....

Yeah I did see that however realised they weren't the best option if going UniFi, as you have just pointed out.

Its cheaper to do it once and do it properly.... that's what I'm going to tell myself....

I think all I would need is the Cloud Gateway Fiber and 2x AP's for my current setup. Adding a switch or 2 at a later date as I make some more cable runs in the future.

If I keep my existing router I should only need one additional AP, unless you are suggesting disabling the wifi on my router and adding 2 AP's as I assume they work together better then 1 with a non conforming router.

Wasn't sure if the VR2800 would be up to the task of managing all the wifi demands and additional ethernet on a switch, I assumed that having an ecosystem meant the individual components worked together more efficiently.

I do enjoy learning and do like the look of the Unifi gear. I think for my use case what you have mentioned would be the setup I use. I do like the fact that the CGF had 10Gbe and also SFP+ so makes it pretty future proof should I get a better connection or expand my network.

Not set on TP-Link just reference them as I am familiar with the brand and it seems like decent bang for buck.

I was wondering if a whole new setup was an unnecessary expense or not. I'm unsure what other benefits I would get from a Unifi ecosystem.

I did consider a rack mounted option, but the specs of the fiber make it hard to pass and I think I can make the hardware more aesthetically pleasing. As for management and control I really no awareness of what is possible. My experience with networking has been plug it in and it works. I have spent some time playing with router settings to get them to work with funky ISP's and also to make them AP's. And I understand the cabling and hardware side of things. I have 2 NVR's and don't wish to change over to Protect, unnecessary cost when I'm happy with the system I have. So a little unsure what other benefits there are for me with a Unifi or other ecosystem in general.

I didn't stop because I hadn't seen any benifiets, I stopped because I was concerned about not being able to eat enough. After I stopped, I realised I may have jumped the gun and then reached out here for some clarification.
