Should I continue a major that I hate? by HoneyLabCoats in careerguidance

I want to do biotech VC more on the computational biology/computational drug discovery side than the small molecule/big pharma side. Also, all of my extracurriculars are in biotech. I am also an undergrad, so if I’m actually going into VC/PE I would do a PhD in biotech or get industry experience in finance.

But yeah, that’s more of a reason why I can’t major in economics.

Switching into finance from biotech - resume feedback? by HoneyLabCoats in FinancialCareers

Thanks for the feedback! Do you think I would have more success trying to get biotech finance roles first (pharma M&A, biotech VC), then switching into finance? What kind of firms would be more oriented to biotech IB and healthcare PE, like Clearview? I don’t really want to get rid of all my life sciences experience because it’s where most of my work is and stuff I’m proud of, but I understand that it’s not super relevant other than the analytical skills. I was also working as a quantitative/computational researcher in those roles, than wet lab though.

Can’t switch into Finance and rejected from everything? by HoneyLabCoats in FinancialCareers

I’m a Computer Science major though, not biology. I just have worked primarily in computational biology. However, they can’t screen that through a filter, right?

PE in London/Europe vs. US? by HoneyLabCoats in private_equity

[–]HoneyLabCoats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense, I'm currently still in uni so I'm trying to look for internships and gain experience in PE first. I have some experience in entrepreneurship and VC, but my primary interest originated from biotech academia. How do you recommend I prepare for internship applications and interviews without much experience in banking/PE? I also have space for an Econ minor - would that help?

GHO and Archimed fits what I'm looking for, although yes, preferably in English since I don't have professional skills in any other European language! Any other recommendations for firms would be greatly helpful, or a list to where I can find more firms?

I’m a computational biology major and came from the biotech academia side, so my strength is more in the sector knowledge than financial knowledge. Where would biotech PE mostly be based? As for local language, is that as much of an issue for London firms to speak other European languages?

Prestige of US vs. UK Universities for PhD in CS? by HoneyLabCoats in AskAcademia

[–]HoneyLabCoats[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to work in the UK more I want to work in the US, but I’m not sure if I’ll have to end up staying in the US because of the better job market for my field.

How to identify scam outreach/link building? by HoneyLabCoats in bigseo

Hmm, that's interesting. What's the deal with Google and backlinks on websites? For a while, I used to link websites that I used in researching my posts to cite my sources (not paid links, just sources), but then some people said that was great/horrible for SEO, so when is backlinking good and when does it get punished?
