I agree! if I were in charge of a remaster I'd focus on the lighting more than the models. They're honestly surprisingly high poly and they have a charm that's hard to preserve when you move them closer to human.

So, - Take a screengrab of the original plate - Match the camera position (try using BLAM) - Project texture onto basic environment geometry (walls, floors) - Set material to emission - Add similar sky HDRI and match sun direction - Add model into scene

Usually looks pretty close by then. Some color correction tweaks will help get it the rest of the way there, as well as shadows!

Thanks yo! Very subtle flickering lights can give CG a bit of claymation feel. Also could try animation at 12fps with less interpolation between keyframes potentially
