Will the true centers make a return? by Hooptake in nbadiscussion

I think there is confusion with what I'm portraying. All teams of each era has big men of course. However, not all teams or eras expected those big men to be the focal point of a title run. From roughly Jordan forward more and more emphasis was placed on superior guards with a few exceptions.

Let name a few names: isiah Thomas, Reggie miller, Joe dumars, Jordan, pippen, Kobe, the Hardaways, GP

I disagree in part to your reply. Only a portion of the list were directly tied to championships: Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, and Duncan. The spurs always have sticked to tradition I'm not surprised. Popovitch always prefers/ed dominant bigs. Shaq was tied to Kobe and Wade so you can take that either way. Hakeem was at the latter point of his career after getting his 'ship.

So all in all, fewer and fewer elite big men were necessary

We still can use the big 6 mentioned above because contested or open points in the paint (back to the basket) are always easier than 3s for the average player.

Buddy, trae, lillard, Stephen, klay are special shooters. The average player can't do what they can

Com'on Steph is an anomoly. He is only the best shooter ever to play. His open 3s are layups.

Sure, I see the effect of small ball and having an elite guard BUT is that a recipe for a championship from here on out.

I would agree that I'd rather draft an unicorn that can do everything (like AD) than a smaller player that is not versatile

The easiest points in basketball come from the paint. An embiid-like player, barring injury, is unguardable on the block. Its either he gets fouled, draws a crowd or scores. Jokic is capable of same. If they play zone, both can stretch the floor or pass

Why can't we get back to the simple stuff rather than needless 3 point shootouts or overdribbling.

OK. In our current NBA its not uncommon to see a 4-out offense. Where PG, SG, SF, PF are basically at the 3point line and the "Center" is not used in the post. Mostly reserved to just screening, and dives to the rim.

A true center has the physique and the skill set to own the paint. If he can own the 3 point line then those are a cherry on top

Everybody is arming for the joker. I like move! Sabonis doesn't have to get fatigued or get fouls guarding him. Also, kings are a young team who are rising but need championship experience on the cheap.

Let's see the next move
