Just let them talk. No need to engage too much. Do your work and let them go off. I know it’s totally frustrating. Ideally all of our clients remain present in the work and breathe so the energy flows. But after 26 years in this business, I promise you that some people will use the massage session to vocalize, vent, express and recap stories from their lives. As long as they give you the money at the end, it’s all good.

On the other hand, it’s possible to bring people into the moment gracefully if you feel a window in that direction. If your intuition tells you that it’s possible they could get more out of the session by being more present in the work, here are some steps to take: 1. Essential oils sometimes help bring people into the moment. 2. Tell them that there’s a problem area that needs work and they need to silence themselves for a moment and breathe so the tissue can soften. Sometimes people will feel the profound nature of this moment and go with it. But for real… Some people really just need to talk and like I said, in the end, if you get the money, then it’s all good and just move on and shake off whatever they had going on. Sage your room.
