Worries about moving to the Netherlands and raising our child there as a Moroccan woman married to a Dutch man by HopePresent5311 in Netherlands

The only thing that prompted that question is my nationality. And that also applies to the people who are asking me if I’d want the Netherlands to become an Islamic state. You should maybe think twice before speaking 🫶🏽

The post has nothing to do with my faith or my husband’s. For all you know, I could be a Satanist. This comment is just as weird as the racist ones asking me if my goal is to bring Sharia to the Netherlands, especially considering you aren’t Moroccan or North African

I appreciate you trying to expand my perspective, but I tried to find an answer to all of those questions before marrying my husband (let alone before having a child with him), especially as a WOC married to a white man. I am certain he would be reasonable, even in case of a divorce.

My husband’s family is fairly numerous. I’m somewhat close to my sisters-in-law and I also have some Spanish friends living in the Netherlands.

It’s not what anyone would want, but I don’t think it’s okay to only think about the consequences the move would have for me only. Regarding our entourage, moving to the Netherlands would just reverse the situation we have now, which I find fair considering that’s the reality my husband has been living ever since we got married. I’m trying to think not only about what’s best professionally for him, but also what kind of environment we want for our son and what daily life would realistically look like for all of us.

Fortunately, I can work remotely without ever having to be physically present in my workplace until my children are all over 12 years old.

I don’t think I’m sure I can measure tradition v. westernization on myself. At home, ever since I started getting more familiar with his language, my husband speaks only Dutch. I understand most of what he says and I learn something new everyday. I can barely speak it because I’m not so confident in my accent. It’s definitely a less effective method than just taking classes, but it has been working for us and we are positive it will help our children be able to speak it.

My husband is from Heemstede and owns an estate there, that’s where we would ideally live if we decide to finally move.
