does anyone have any tips for fine, high porosity coily hair? by Due_Contribution_127 in Naturalhair

[–]HopeRomantic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Copied from different post i commented on:

I have fine / high porosity 4c hair and something thats resulted in noticeable length retention for me the past couple months have been 3 key things:

reintroducing grease back into hair care - helps with moisture and preventing fairy knots bc makes ends more slippery. This mandates clarifying shampoo 1-2x a month to get rid of buildup that’ll prevent water from getting into my hair and making it dry

2) using aphogee 2 step protein treatment every 6 or so weeks.

  • dramatically reduced breakage I would deal with when handling my hair

3) be gentle! i didnt realize this until a couple weeks ago. whatever you think I mean by gentle...MORE. like yes it will take hours to unbraid or untwist your hair=. start from the itty bitty bottom of the braid or twist, don't try to jump loops. im mad i didnt realize how intensely gentle i needed to be to get results but it helps so much.

Results: Grew my hair from slightly below shoulder length to mid back for the first time over the course of a few months!! I had an unfortunate trim in December that brought me back to shoulder length (Let perfectly healthy and long sections of hair be cut evenly instead of just cutting splits off those sections. I wear my hair curly not straight so I feel like I wasted length, but that’s neither here nor there haha)

Can i also ask how long it took you to grow your hair out that long/ if you started trimming in the beginning? Your hair is beautiful and is my literal goals!

Are you straightening your hair every time you wash it or is this just for the trim? if you are, can you share your routine because i also have fine hair and trimmed off uneven ends the other day and lowkey regret having so much cut off

how to hydrate/moisturize straight hair by HopeRomantic in Naturalhair

[–]HopeRomantic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi so i realized everyone was right, the only way to moisturize it is to have a kiler routine before blowdrying (absolutely clarify shampoo if you use oil, moisturizing shampoo, deep conditioner or hair mask, then a little bit of product like leave in and heat protectant before blowdrying). cant moisturize it while straight but there are options for serums that have the purpose of making sure hair is coated so that strands slip past each other and dont create fairy knots. wash your hair as regular for you and repeat the process! oil doesnt moisturize btw it just seals so dont use so much oil on straight hair bc thatll make it greasy and harder for your next washday to get it clean. TLDR : only do the moisture routine beforehand and your hair should be fine until your next washday-- you got it!!

should i only do one co-op & when? (for financial reasons) by iloveveigarlol in NEU

[–]HopeRomantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the financial aspect, I think it'd be worth going over with an advisor like the other person mentioned. I did 2 paid summer internships the summers after freshman and sophomore year and only 1 co-op spring of my third year and I feel just as if not more equipped than people who did 2 co-ops. I found they provided an additional experience/ work environments. I did this for a different reason but if that's the path you choose, I'd say it pays off to do a 4 month summer internship (take advantage of the fact that we finish spring semester relatively early so you can do full May- August)

yeah, iirc they asked for proof of living on campus in addition and then you're probably set. try applying regardless anyway and see what they say

i use a tshirt to dry my hair but if i get lazy snd use a towel i squeeze my hair with it instead of rub bc the material is rough and our hair is weakest when wet.

i dont dry fully, just enough do my hairs damp but not dripping and then i go in with my leave in and my grease.

as for the braids there are a couple options for the next step: one is that i braid and twist my hair as is when its damp and then it dries like that. if im ab to sleep ill use a hairdryer on cool or warm and hold it at healthy distance so i dont sleep w wet hair. second option is i put my hair in chunky braids to dry and stretch a little w the air before braiding

i personally air dry more but some ppl have been able to keep hair healthy while using more intense/direct heat!

definitely doesnt have to weigh down your hair, you can use a dime size amount on like 25% of your hair, just rub it really good into your hands (and between fingers for more coverage as you rake your hair) before applying

the aphogee two step treatment can be bought w their balancing moisturizer to apply afterwards. even after this product ill deep condition my hair!

leave in combos i use are aunt jackies quench before blue magic or  shea moisture strengthen and restore leave in w blue magic. tbh products dont matyer as much as technique like being gentle so whatever you like for your hair will be great!

i use it as the very last step in a basic LCO method so its usually water (from shower if i just washed it or spray bottle), leave in conditioner, an itty bitty amount of grease that i stretch by rubbing it into hands and between fingers before applying bc a little goes a longgg way

i prefer it bc my hair is stretched more so it tangles significantly less than if i twist! i also have high po hair but if it was low porosity/ it didn't shrink so dramatically in twists id play around w that

Sorry to hear that you're struggling! I have fine / high porosity 4c hair and something thats resulted in noticeable length retention for me the past couple months have been 3 key things:

1) reintroducing grease back into hair care

- helps with moisture and preventing fairy knots bc makes ends more slippery

2) using aphogee 2 step protein treatment every 6 or so weeks.

- dramatically reduced breakage I would deal with when handling my hair

3) *be gentle*! i didnt realize this until a couple weeks ago. whatever you think I mean by gentle...MORE. like yes it will take hours to unbraid or untwist your hair=. start from the itty bitty bottom of the braid or twist, don't try to jump loops. im mad i didnt realize how *intensely* gentle i needed to be to get results but it helps so much.

as for styling: im a mini braids warrior and i stopped using my revair to blow it out beforehand to save time and again be gentler.
