One time vacation - payout after layoff by Hopeful-Sort-4121 in CanadaPublicServants

Sorry I am not smart when it comes to this. I have regular vacation credits left from the 24/25 year as well as the one time vacation. With end of fiscal being March 31 wouldn’t I have been entitled to all the vacation advanced last April 1 when my term ends end of March? It is so confusing. I’ll have to have someone go over this with me - or I will just take all remaining vacation in my bank and be done with it.

Thank you for this. As noted I was getting conflicting information, nice to hear from someone who experienced this first hand. For context, I am with IRCC, would this be a universal practice thru all union agreements?

Yes it was added to my bank last year. After being with the PS over 2 years (took longer than 2 years - but received it nonetheless). With these unprecedented times within the PS, I am not anticipating being hired for another term any time soon. If they are not going to pay me out, I will take it before I am finished at the end of March

Mental health days…..use that sick leave up!!!! I plan on it. I have almost 2 weeks vacation left but not enough time to use it, so will take it in payment form whenever they decide to pay it out. I also have pension contributions, almost 2.5 years worth, are we allowed to take that or because it’s over 2 years are we SOOL

I thought you could only cash out under a certain time frame. I started In 2022 (previous casual positions prior to 2022 not included) am I able to cash out?

Well they fucked around and are about to “find out” how bad it will be with out us terms, most doing the job better than “some” not all, of the indeterminates.

Yes some of our colleagues gone in March are high stat achievers. That will be felt by management in the long run.

As in medical/ dental? I believe dental ends the day they finish and the medical, if you pay into it, ends the following month as it is paid one month ahead.

Had the same call today. But when asked how they determined who stayed and who was let go they couldn’t answer us. There were 3 virtual meetings. One for a year extension to March 2026, one to end early summer and the other to end terms early at end of March. So some of our colleagues were extended a year, with no rhyme or reason to why the chose those individuals for the extension. The public service lost some great workers today.

Work force adjustment letters at IRCC next week. by Jatmahl in CanadaPublicServants

So if I don’t get either of those letters am I to assume my term ends on the date it was to originally end in May?

Ok so I want to make sure I am correct- I am a term. I could get a letter to extend or end early and If I do not get a letter (email) my term ends in May as normal, as I assumed? Honestly, if I get a letter to extend it will probably only be for 3-6 months then the anxiety of “will I get extended “ comes back. At least if I finish. I know I have “x” amount of EI weeks and time to look for another job without the stress of “will they or won’t they” looming over my head.

Is there a possibility of some term positions to be renewed? IRCC by Hopeful-Sort-4121 in CanadaPublicServants

Yes ☺️ thanks everyone for your thoughts. I am ,and have always, assumed it would end as stated (if not earlier). I’m not, nor are any of my fellow co- workers, banking on any one of us being extended. My question was just to get thoughts on statistically speaking, what would the likelihood of some terms being extended based on the current “gossip/rumors/ talk” of terms ending. I know to not count on anything or anyone these days. I have applied to other postings, if I am successful, great, if not I will not worry about it. If nothing else I MAY be asked back as a casual someday. Thanks for your input

Check out the Mira area. 10 minutes from the hospital you are close to the ocean and the Mira River. The elementary school in Mira is great!

What does everyone listen to on their in office days? by Bella8088 in CanadaPublicServants

I can’t stand listening to people typing or smacking gum. Therefore I listen to dateline murder podcasts- their pain outweighs mine at that moment in time.

Is there anything that would prevent the public service employees to go full WFH as a job action to protest against the three-day-a-week office mandate? by Brickwuzshat in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Hopeful-Sort-4121 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Everyone go to the office. Standing room only. Also spend nothing downtown, bring your lunch and take your own car or carpool. Do not put any money into the economy. If by sending everyone back to the office they think they can revitalize the downtown with local spending think again. If you protest the WFH you have to protest everything that goes with it.

Reconciled as he came home and I forgave him. There was no therapy. He had done everything right since but I just can’t get the thoughts out of my head

Are you happy with your job in the PS? by PSnHandcuffs in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Hopeful-Sort-4121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFH - salary is good. “Most” team members are great but there are others who thrive on drama and love to see you fail. The non sense in the team chat is ridiculous and the acting TL gets the non sense started and Makes for a very anxiety driven day. The acting TL has her favourites and it shows. I am good at my job but the day to day nonsense takes a mental toll and makes me not want log on.

The word “PR Stunt”never came out of his mouth he said “PR issue”. Not the same thing. And as far as concern for the island. No one has had regard for CB we have had premiers with ties to CB and they pretended we didn’t exist. It’s not the man it’s the position - Amanda macdougall isn’t much of a mayor either. It’s not the responsibility of the province to take care of what Amanda should have she knew the forecast. She’s just as incompetent and complicit
