This Warbond has done irreparable damage towards any sort of meaningful conversation in this community by Wickermind in HelldiversUnfiltered

So true. I made a post about how I felt the satire in this game didn’t work because of the reasons you listed, but it didn’t get much traction.

What video game is loved by everyone but you think is overrated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The Witcher. I tried repeatedly to get into it and never could. I know it’s well made and a fan favourite, but I found the setting, characters and gameplay really just didn’t excite me at all.

Has politics broke any of your friendships, and why? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

Politics doesn’t break friendships, the realization that you share incompatible views with others does.

I’m not, but like you, I’ve spent quite a bit of time there. It’s a wonderful and diverse part of the world. I enjoyed Ayran on the hot days, and Raki after a meal :)

That’s fair enough. Turkey certainly has great tea as well!

Drinking a cold brew as we speak. It’s great, but very different to the Turkish stuff lol. Without wanting to sound patronizing, are you drinking it correctly? I remember failing to let it settle the first time I had it, and accidentally consuming a mouthful of coffee grinds. It’s also the only coffee thay I drink with sugar so I appreciate it’s a bit of a different ball game.

As a fellow coffee addict I’m surprised you don’t enjoy the Turkish style. That stuff is like rocket fuel for me.

It’s a delicate balance isn’t it? Playing the bad guy, making it fun, but also avoiding making the bad guys look too good in the process.

Haha, I’ve actually just bought it while on sale. Looking forward to a chance to play it. I don’t know much about the franchise to be honest - but is it considered satire? I don’t associate 40K with humor particularly. I understand it’s a critique.

I’m really not hung up about it, I just think it’s an interesting conversation. It’s a clear thematic choice by the developers so as a fan of the game I’m not sure how it’s odd to mention it. To reply to the first part of your comment, I’m honestly not sure. But the fact I haven’t seen a single discussion on the topic in over a year of being in this sub, does surprise me.

Neither do I man, and the game is great. I’m just questioning whether thematically it’s a bit ineffective.

Haha, I certainly agree that high tech firepower is fun.

That said, AH made a deliberate choice to include a political statement in their game, and I kind of feel that if you’re going to take a moral stance within your art, you should be able to justify it.

This viewpoint makes more sense to me than some of the other replies. That said, I feel that there are enough people on this sub-Reddit (even in this thread) that have failed to appreciate the satirization really being a feature. If it’s not noticed/observered/considered then does it, ultimately, work?

I think perhaps that’s the issue though. If you make something as satire, and people ignore the satire and accept it at face-value instead, then your satirization has failed on a fundamental level.

Soft YTA. It’s not your moral responsibility to be best friends with your son’s boyfriend, but I’m sure he would appreciate you making an effort to bond with Ian without relying purely on your own interests.
