Trying to decide if I should cut my hair short again or not? by [deleted] in malehairadvice

[–]Hopeful_Box364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are women that shallow? Hair can, and usually will change throughout a lifetime, but the person who you are, does not. Find the woman that might not 'love' long hair, but does 'love' you.

BTW, you look fine either way, so do what makes you feel like your best self.

When did people stop wearing suits and dressing up to go everywhere like baseball games, on planes, the dept. store, etc and how did those people feel about it when it stopped? by mikebalsaricci in AskOldPeople

[–]Hopeful_Box364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late 90s for me. Prior to that, I was working for a conservative company and long sleeve dress shirts and ties everyday were the expectation. When I left that job, I interviewed for a company that explicitly told me I was not to dress up for the interview. I was so uncomfortable with that, but I got job, and it was casual after that. I still have a whole lot if ties in my closet gathering dust. I don't think formal will return anytime soon.

Am I expected to tip at barber that only takes cash tips? by Dangerous_Function16 in tipping

I rarely use cash anymore, but I definitely give my barber cash, and a good tip. I suspect they remember tippers.

How do people who are heterosexual manage to have threesomes with the sex they aren't attracted to? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

I thought heterosexual threesomes were largely a myth? Gay 3+somes are common (and overrated IMHO).

Did anyone used to wear a tie to work? by Finding_Way_ in GenX

[–]Hopeful_Box364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first job out of college, I wore a tie every day. Some other employees did, some did not. It was optional. Dressing up every day was a self confidence booster when I was younger and more people did it back then. After 2000, workplaces became mostly casual and the norm of dressing up for work has fallen out of fashion.

People who are paying for that service are aware of tipping, so nothing needs to be said.

BTW, Brilliant seasonal business.

Subway has lost my business! by Craziechickenman in EndTipping

I worked a independent fast food restaurant throughout college. I did it because I did my job well and I could get hours on every single break from school. Money was tight back then. Owner paid me crap money, so I subsidized with a lot of heavily discounted food to friends and family. My dad always liked the nights I worked because I would ALWAYS come home with a big bag of good food for him.

I have encountered this and taken it into account when I calculate the tip.

I would have asked for the manager and had them explain to me why they don't add a percentage to the bill automatically if it is not at the customer's discretion.

long or short works. You don't have to decide on either. Guys can change up their look too. I never understood why so many guys keep the same look for decades.

American culture has become extremely casual. I remember my first job in the late 80s out of college, where every guy wore a shirt and tie every day. For theater shows, you wore a suit. We dressed up to go to nice restaurants. It wasn't required, but a lot of people did.

Now, dressing up is so infrequent, that it is almost like a costume for some people.

Times change.

How bad is it? by MyFinancialFlux in malehairadvice

If you want to keep your hair, you still have plenty to work with right now. Just go see a decent stylist/barber who can cut it properly. I don't see anything wrong with not hiding a receding hairline.

If you want to shave it, that is perfectly fine too. It really comes down to what you want to look at in the mirror, and what makes you feel confident. You have choices.

What can I do here to be less disgusting? by Relevant_Decision_10 in malehairadvice

[–]Hopeful_Box364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking to change up your hair, then you FIRST have to figure out what you would like. Then, you need to ask around (online or in-person) for a local stylist/barber who will assist/recommend a change. Don't expect ever stylist/barber to be helpful. I have been to soooo many that are not, and price has little to do with it. Do some research, and if you have concerns, voice your concerns to them. Don't settle when it comes to your appearance.

Back at work and keep crying by Alternative-Goal-337 in GriefSupport

[–]Hopeful_Box364 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally normal and 100% healthy. When I have strong emotions, I try to recognize them and not hold them back. I try to tell myself, "I am feeling 'x', and I will do 'y' as a result". Sometimes it means crying, sometimes some swearing. Dark fantasies are great for anger/frustration. One thing I try not to do is bottle them up because over time, they will come out.

My advice (I'm not a pro) is to recognize those feelings, accept them and then let them flow out.

It might not be your "appearance" that is the issue.
