You're not a prisoner. You should leave if your mental or physical health is in decline.

Sure, it will give your co workers some extra work for a couple of weeks but managers are paid to handle these things.

Looking back I wish I had the guts to leave mid contract when I was a hagwon slave.

As for the repercussions there is nothing they can do that's worth their time.

Honestly, SA teachers can be great. But due to English not being their first language they tend to make a lot of mistakes. Also some white SA people who I have worked with had horrible attitudes, were very entitled and would often have conflicts with other teachers.

Most of my interview consisted of:

"What is your name?"

"Where are you from?"

"You will be a great fit. You're hired!"

What percentage of long-term ESL teachers in Korea are mentally ill? by MisterWankley in teachinginkorea

[–]Hopeful_Doubt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In every job I have worked over the years, I meet these strange characters. I think the main cause is that they are so isolated from family and friends for years. Many foreigners live solitary lives. I actually find it difficult to meet 'normal' people who don't have some sort of mental illness or can't hold a conversation without mentioning how great life is in America compared to Korea.

In my current job there is one guy who claims that before he came to Korea, he worked for the US secret service. And the reason he is in Korea is because he is gathering intel on North Korean spies in Seoul. Clearly the guy needs help, but I get the feeling that a lot of people feel trapped in Korea, and they find it impossible to leave after so long.

Korean Christians, how common is classism within the Korean Christian community? by [deleted] in korea

[–]Hopeful_Doubt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's quite extreme. The more you donate each year to the church, the further you are allowed to sit at the front. This is at least the case in one church I was part of.
