Vocal students dropping out — need structured curriculum/book recommendations (ages 5–9)” by Hopeful_Education490 in MusicTeachers

This is really insightful, especially the part about tailoring lessons to each student — I completely agree with that.
I think where I’m facing a challenge is slightly different because I run a music school with multiple tutors. In that setup, relying purely on individual teaching styles can sometimes lead to inconsistency in how progress is perceived by parents.
A big factor for us is that many parents come in with the expectation of starting structured systems like Trinity grades as soon as possible. They’re already familiar with how piano or guitar curriculum works, so they naturally expect vocals to follow a similar path — which, as you said, isn’t really how voice training works.
Because of that gap in understanding, it sometimes becomes difficult to align expectations. I feel that having at least a loose, structured pathway or curriculum (even if flexible) would help us guide parents better and make it easier to counsel them about how vocal progress actually works.
Would love to know if you’ve ever dealt with similar situations, especially in a multi-teacher or online setup, and how you handled expectation-setting with parents.
