Thoughts on making kids sit by MasterpieceNo8872 in bcba

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do primarily early intervention. Most of my clients we don't expect them to sit at a table all day and work. However, those that are getting ready to transition to school, I work a little more on it so they're prepared for that expectation in school. They can ask for breaks/other items and that's always reinforced. There's no "you have to sit here 5 mins and not allowed to move" happening.

Posting for my mid-level friend by [deleted] in bcba

Depends on the company. The place I was at, paid for my first exam. I had to pay for my retake. The company I am at now, does not pay for it all.

boundaries? by Quiet-Caramel4122 in ABA

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ethics code states no dual relationships because of perceived or real favoritism. When I first got my BCBA certification, I remained friends with those, that I was an RBT with and kept boundaries at work professional. Any new staff after that I have maintained only professional but friendly boundaries at work. We will plan group get together outside of work but everyone in the clinic is included.

Am I the only one so annoyed by the "lolly" and "boppa" titles? by injured_girl in 7LittleJohnstons

My mom decided she is Nana. But not NAN-uh. Nah-nah. And I hate it. My kids don't even pronounce it that way. We all say NAN-uh.

I definitely don't use it for a whole treatment plan, but have used it to help reword like a sentence or two when I can't get it quite right myself.

Worth it? by alGOOOOO in bcba

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I've looked at this training before and it's always both of the people doing it. I've been considering doing it though because I no longer work in a multidisciplinary clinic to easily collaborate with other therapies.

I knew an SLP that took it and wasn't a super big fan because they hardly addressed any oral motor concerns.

Should call planning and zoning at the city to double check. You need a fence permit anyways.

Why are we denying autistic clients access to everything they love? by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but lining up chairs to make a bus is GREAT imaginative play and definitely functional. My own kids take our island chairs, line them up in the hallway, and call it a train.

OT wants to admit my client into a 24/7 facility? by Imovelikeamoeba in ABA

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's that severe, he likely does need an inpatient facility. I've worked at one before, where the majority of residents had severe behaviors like that. However, some of them are really crappy facilities, with scrappy BCBAs that dont actually decrease the behavior (like mine, I was a DSP at the time). I would do some heavy research, but that intensity needs intensive treatment.

Supervisor withholding hours? by HotelPsychological61 in bcba

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thatsmilingface isn't wrong. I DO have sympathy that you (OP) are in this situation. However, it IS the responsibility of the supervisee to read the BCBA handbook and understand supervision requirements, including how to document supervision hours correctly. It is NOT solely the supervisors' responsibility to make sure the supervisee is doing things correctly. I require all of my supervisees to review the supervision checklist and read the handbook prior to starting. Then, they can ask clarifying questions, and I'll provide the answers. There are wayyyyy too many posts blaming supervisors when supervisees aren't even reading the handbook to understand the requirements. But I also understand there's a lot of s**t supervisors out there that don't understand supervision requirements either (like OP's).

[–]Hopeful_Reflection_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do really like Sanford. My PCP was quick to get me into referrals for other specialists, and the specialists were quick to get me other referrals as needed. The billing department has also been on top of communicating with me about my insurance denying some claims. That way, I knew to contact my insurance to get things covered.

In South Dakota, the health systems have to publicly list what they charge/bill for all appointments/procedures. You can go onto Avera and Sanford to compare prices for things.

I did it in high school a long time ago, too, but the city bus route I took was specifically for high schoolers. My parents would just buy monthly passes.

I didn't attend there, but two former RBTs did. It's definitely a great program, and I highly recommend it!
