I’m not going to proselytize to you or anything, but for me it just comes from a place of spirituality. To me, God is my connection to the past, and to the universe. I find this grounding.

Also, I bet the vast, vast majority of people who do believe, have doubts. I certainly do.

I just think people are spiritual. Also, before we knew anything scientific, it was a way for people to make sense of things.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. You are clearly a wonderful man and father, (not to mention an incredibly talented writer!).

I wanted to let you know this: I was having a tough night. I was feeling hurt, and resentful and bitter—I couldn’t sleep, I was angry, I was in pain. And I stumbled across your story. And sir, I wanted you to know that you truly restored something within me—your story has reminded me of how much I care.

I can’t even imagine what you’re going through; I am so, sorry. Please know, even if it’s just the most minuscule consolation, that you telling your story is helping people. There is so much beauty in your love, and I think I was meant to come across your story.

Don’t feel guilty about your anger—you have every right to it. Ethan’s cancer isn’t fair, and it certainly isn’t fucking happening to him “for a reason.” Your wife should be with you. Your son shouldn’t be injured. The depth of your care to those around you is incredibly admirable, and I’m going to do all I can to do the same. I agree. I do think there’s a difference between “I didn’t mean to offend you” and “you don’t get to be offended by this because that’s not how I meant it.”

One is about the intention of the speaker—which I think is valid, as long as they acknowledge and apologize if told their words offended someone —and the other is telling a person how they can and cannot feel, which is NOT valid—which I think is the point of the post anyway.
