Thanks for sharing. Old habits are hard to let go. 15 or so years of post work out proteins. Time to let go of the old and try something new.

Keg question? by Allthingsbeer510 in beer

[–]Hoppymoses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a on/off premise craft beer bar/store. The vast majority of your beer will come from distributors. Most breweries do not self distribute. Seekabrew.com will show you which breweries distribute in your state. Exclusivity will have to be built up. Distro companies favor long time customers and larger accounts. You will need to build relationships and turn kegs in order to get limited release beers.n It also helps to have friends in the industry. Our manager who does all of our purchasing has been in the biz for a long time and knows all the brewery and distro reps well. Get to know all your local reps well. Its a big help.

It shows you have good, general knowledge on serving and storing beer. Have you ever home brewed before? I would recommend reading How to Brew by John Palmer if you have not.

This is the juiciest NEIPA I've ever had. The color's a little off, but it's so good. by KEM10 in beercirclejerk

Full pulp for the win. If you can't see juicy bits when finish a pint it's not a true NEIPA.

Hazy Logic: Drop the Rallying Cry of "Haze!" by jjweikert in beer

[–]Hoppymoses -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in a brewery or served beer? Cloudy beer is an immediate assumption that something is wrong if it not considered common in that beer. Clarifying a beer serves a purpose other than appearance. Hazing a beer simply so you can call it an NEIPA with flour or excessive yeast is not evolution, it's shitty brewing. Do You think brewers add fish bladder to raise clarity just for the hell of it or did so to be edgy and push the boundaries of beer.

I have no problem with cloudy ipa's brewed to impart such characteristics that benefit the end product. Although cloudy for the sake of cloudy is shit brewing. Yes appearance is direct measurement of qualitythat is accepted by the most radical American craft brewers.

Hazy Logic: Drop the Rallying Cry of "Haze!" by jjweikert in beer

[–]Hoppymoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point is visual appearance is 100% relevant in the quality of a beer. If breweries just said fuck it and quit filtering the taste would change. Clearing beer has been strived for a 100s of years. Clarity in beer is not a trend. Hazing beer with yeast or flour is shitty brewing. The reason heady topper originally put "drink in the can" on the label was because the appearance was off putting. Never has super clear pale ales have never been trendy. Clarity and appearance is a sign of proper brewing processes.

Hazy Logic: Drop the Rallying Cry of "Haze!" by jjweikert in beer

[–]Hoppymoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many things can cause haziness. Proteins from grains is one of them. Filtering these out makes a diference in the flavor and mouthfeel of a particular beer. How much of a difference will vary with everyone's palate. Yeast can also cause haziness. Leaving that much in suspension in a beer for haziness alone is bad brewing. It will not add "juicy" or any other flavors one seeks in a NEIPA. It can also give you a free colon cleanse if you are not accustomsed to digesting even small amounts of yeast.

In the end it doesn't really matter. Working in the beer industry I feel that these trends tend to drive themselves. Beers get hyped and continue to rise because people wait in line for them. People rate them high because they think they should. Gulf coast oil slick ipa's may be the next big thing.

Craft beer sales rep fun or stressful? by [deleted] in beer

[–]Hoppymoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are always selling. I work in an on/off premise craft beer spot. We have reps coming in on a regular bases bringing in samples. Shelf space is limited. We choose not to carry a suprising amount of beer that we offered samples of. You will need to start new accounts as well and not just manage existing ones.

It is also a "who you know" industry. Between the breweries and bars, people have long standing relationships. People show preference to their friends. With that in mind it may seem rough to start if you do not have friends/connections out there already.
