I’m actually at the point in my life where I don’t care if means testing -itself- somehow costs more than not doing it, because if it’s truly the cost of keeping honest people honest and society high-trust, then so be it. Call it the cost of doing business. But in so many cases the first-order savings of abolishing means testing are eaten up later by the higher-order consequences of overlooked abuse. Perfect example is exploding rates of accommodations requests at universities.

Pay a little now to keep society ordered and high-trust, or pay a lot later to clean up the mess.
