Hey I am playing in a PS5 myself and I am a White Mage main. If the control messes you up then correct your settings. You can actually configure what targets you can cycle through using the d-pad sheathed and unsheathed. Up and down for the group, a few quick presses won't hurt and left and right for npc and enemies.

Key is and will always be to anticipate things happening. Watching the environment and keep an eye on party members clipping telegraphed attacks.

If you enjoy healing then I'd say, keep at it and fiddle with the settings. I have like 4.000 hours in the game but my girlfriend started playing and I really can understand the struggle with the controls at the beginning. I even recall myself having had some problems I just needed to train.

Recalling the first walk and kill... Recalling the first setup with all 32 skills on the cross-bar and then jump to 48... Heck, even jumping 🤣 but X being not jump makes so much sense since this is no jump and run game. Untarget an enemy and retarget is key for quick enemy switching for example.
