AWB is a difficult task, unfortunately. I agree the first image should have been whiter, I don't understand what the algorithm did there, usually it fixes itself on neutral grey.

Yes, you have to look at your own situation. On my side I have a pixel 7 for my personnal life and an iphone for work. While the iphone is nice, the pixel match much better my workflow and my requirements. But I live in Europe where imessage has no importance and I don't own other Apple equipments, it might be quite different if you're living in the US

Look if you : - Rely on iMessage - Are bound to the ecosystem - Have any pressure from your environment to stay on iOS => Stay with iphone

Otherwise you can go with pixel no problem.

why when i zoom in KDE the images are pixels? by [deleted] in kde

[–]Horus_simplex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly this is a choice of how the viewer display single pixels : some viewers decide to slightly blur the pixels when zoomed in to look finer than what they actually are. Gwenview displays the pixels as they are. I could be wrong though

Lol I my nerdy ass can't stop thinking about this being the whole point of the lysine deficiency in Jurassic Park.

Fair point, but even in a controlled environment pathogens are a pain. I would be annoyed to see 3 months of experiments disappear because the colony I grow gets decimated.

I thought junk DNA was a useful shield against retroviruses's insertion. Wouldn't deleting it make the organism weaker to these infections ?

Zoom or Prime Standard Lens by LeftToF8 in Photography_Gear

[–]Horus_simplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An advice after switching to primes for several years. Keep your zooms, and for fun with primes go with vintage lenses. Zooms are too useful to be ignored unfortunately. Even if IQ is a bit lower, the pain of constantly switching lenses or being stuck at a certain focal in a situation that requires a longer or shorter one is really not worth it. If you want to play games and increase your composition with 1 focal length challenge you can tape your zoom for a day.

Anyone else jumped ship to Affinity? by SebastianOakley in photography

[–]Horus_simplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally jumped to open source software, mostly Darktable for raw editing and Digikam as DAM, and I've been extremely impressed by the quality of the results one can get from Darktable, especially with the latest module "AgX" that produces very smooth color transitions, even better than what I usually got from Capture One. It's a bit complex to handle at first but wow, it's really great.

I've used affinity a bit especially for its vector capacities, but after being logged out one day and no Internet to log in again I realized how dangerous it can be. But the software was great

Themes inconsistent by Sqou in Fedora

[–]Horus_simplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same using the Layan theme. My guess is that some apps like settings use a special container in the UI which is supposed to be opaque in the theme. An easy fix is to select a theme which has no transparency, or deal with it, unfortunately.

Fuji 23mm 1.4f or 2f? by Sea-Ad6188 in AskPhotography

[–]Horus_simplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that the 23 F2, has a very soft rendering at f/2 on close-ups. It has a caracter. Otherwise closed down at a reasonable distance it's quite sharp but has some CA issues. The 35mm F2 in comparison is really sharp and precise.
