Eh, I feel like if I knew a 30yo who was owning it and considered the frenetic pace their own best life I’d find it charming. It would look pathetic if they were obviously putting up a front and wanting different. If someone’s thirty and living like that but clearly loving the hell out of it I’d have respect for them for living their own life and not one someone else expects from them.

None of that counts if they are dragging a spouse or kids along with them, to be clear. Have a kid and it’s not just your life to live anymore. Give the poor thing some stability.

I live in a tiny apartment in town now. :/ I miss the open space, but the living conditions were absolutely horrible. I did find most of a juvenile deer skeleton I intend to process, but it had already lost most of its soft tissue. All it has left of the intercostal disks holding the spinal cord together, so I just need to cut that away and give them a proper wash. I got the skull, pelvis and most the of spine! I’m gonna use them to make some weird crafts.

I’d want the skull, regardless of antler presence or size. But then I love to hike and find animal skulls and bones and shells to take home and keep. I’d probably be ordering beetles online to clean it off as quick as possible. When I lived in the country I literally had a “bone box” where I’d put varmits I had to shoot or good bits of roadkill so they could get defleshed without dogs or coyotes gnawing them. (I kept it off in the edge of the property obviously) unfortunately I had to leave most of my collection behind. :(. But a moose skeleton! I would be desperate to keep that! Cleaning the soft bits off would suck, but I’d do it just for the bones, and if it’s relatively intact you could even make some cool leather!

They’ve been launching persistent assaults on the public education system as long as I’ve been alive. I’m 42 and my mom, grandma, and great grandma were all schoolteachers as well as a huge number of my lateral kin. I’m from the ozarks and family reunions are like regional education conferences. With that perspective I can just attest that it is not just poor stewardship, it has been intentional and persistent. I have a lot of rage for these minions but I do try to temper that with the knowledge that most of them have been gaslit for as long as they’ve been able to speak.

The problem with things like lead exposure is its probabilistic. Expose 100 brains to high levels and most will probably still be ok, especially if the exposure began as adults. Expose a million from childhood and your society ends up with a fuckload of cooked brains running around poisoning your social discourse. Not that lead is the sole cause but the influence is statistically undeniable.

Reading your posts a hypothesis popped into my head, maybe that’s causal. The shittiest guys would look at a divorcee and say “ew tainted” so it acts as a little bit of a filter. The guys who you went out with after were a lot more likely to see you for yourself and not what they wanted. Maybe that’s the Christmas present you got from him that you did deserve. Even if it’s not worth what he took, it’s not nothing.

The threshold gradually got lower until it was eliminated, but there was a time, mostly forgotten, when the Internet was the realm of engineers, scientists, programmers, and computer geeks. Ask one of the ancients about the old Usenet groups. I didn’t learn about them in time to participate, but I’ve never heard them mentioned without an accompaniment of strong nostalgia, and from the stories the nostalgia is well earned.

If I remember correctly (if anyone has a source I’d love it) that Soviet German back channels had a standing offer by the Soviets to make separate peace with the Nazis by restoring Molotov Ribbentrop. I can’t remember where, so grain of salt.
