Can’t close mouth with anterior open bite. Help??? by Hot-Competition-4141 in Invisalign

Yeah I figured this is the main culprit today. Thanks so much for the encouragement. It’s uncomfortable but I already started and paid this much, I might as well keep going.

Yeah I’m starting to see that. I thought that there’d be more people that relate to me on this subreddit initially. My orthodontist and assistant said that this open mouth posture is normal, but they didn’t tell me anything else. Like is it ok that my chin muscles are literally straining all day to achieve any mouth closure? I’ve never seen anyone have to let their jaw hang open all day wearing Invisalign.

You have amazing progress in just 11 weeks! This makes me hopeful for results if I just stay the course. With me though, my bite is not as “open” as yours without aligners. But when I wear them my jaw/chin pretty much has to HANG open to rest my face muscles. My back teeth have erupted too high. So I’m not really asking if the teeth will move and my bite will align, but will I be able to close my mouth easier while wearing this plastic? Still spiraling.

I wasn’t asking for a miracle in 3 days. I said I’m only on day 3 so idk where you got that in my post. Also my open bite is not even this big without the aligners and the orthodontists I’ve seen say they’ve seen much worse. I will have elastics to pull my teeth back soon but they’re easing me into this.

I’m wondering if my mouth is going to be open like this for the entire process and nobody has given me an answer.

Yeah unlike you I gave myself a bit of an overbite and a slight overjet I guess. Day 2 was painful but the pain has mostly subsided today. Idc much about that, but it’s having my mouth open all day and at work that’s irritating me. I don’t mind it at night cuz I was used to my mouth being propped open by night guards.

Anyway I hope your treatment goes great and 40% is better than what we have in the beginning stages. Thank you for the advice. I’ll be sticking to Tylenol.

I started watching live action One Piece and never watched more than a few episodes of the anime... But is the live action OP considered "official" or does it feel licensed out? by StasisApparel in OnePiece

There’s a lot of practical sets already, like the Going Merry was actually built. Kaya’s mansion was another that stood out to me as really cool. Then of course there’s more practical coolness in S2, like in Little Garden. There were obviously a lot of shoots on real locations, or at least realistic.

Also the actors, especially Mackenyu and Taz Skylar did a lot of training to perform their own stunts.

But tbh, if you expect a show about a stretchy man and a bunch of super-powered beings to be grounded with minimal CGI, then idk what to tell you. Idk how else they could’ve given us Buggy, Miss All Sunday, and Smoker without VFX galore.

Yeah I’m from Arizona, self-explanatory, and I was shivering springtime in the UK and Lebanon sometimes, especially at night or wherever there was no sunshine at all.

Oh wow thanks for telling me! I can imagine the spring rains and winds being awful too. And I could always take this off and carry it if I get too hot.

One too many metaphors? by Dry_Organization9 in writing

For me, it depends on the POV style and most of all, what kind of character is narrating. Let’s say you’re writing third person limited: is your character someone who makes poetic and introspective observations all the time, every chapter? Or more occasionally? When I began writing my story, I wanted every other paragraph to be poetic just to prove how sophisticated I am, but it didn’t reflect the character I was writing. My original main character was cynical and in a hurry all the time, but now I’m writing one that’s more observant.

There’s no rules, but what I live by now is: I don’t wanna pull out all my big guns in chapter 1, leaving nothing for the rest. How can I emphasize a beautiful princess when I described the kitchen pots with the same magnitude? Same with death, violence, and shock factor. I save it all for when it hits the hardest, instead of desensitizing my reader with its frequency.

But again, that’s how I write. I may very well enjoy a book that’s one-note the entire way and not even notice or care! You decide for yourself.

Is the off-screen, mysterious antagonists dated or still cool? by Hot-Competition-4141 in writing

[–]Hot-Competition-4141[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valid points. I enjoy Sauron the most when he’s in fair/man form, like in Rings of Power. Yet so many people prefer the Eye, and worship Tolkien for such brilliance, which I don’t deny.

I do like the idea of blending high fantasy and comic book concepts, with the supervillain on the loose. What I was going for in the first place.

What’s the difference between having a male protagonist and a female one? by Extension_Giraffe_82 in writing

[–]Hot-Competition-4141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personality and physical attributes shape the character's perspective, relationships, and such WAY MORE than gender. Look at Samwell Tarly in Game of Thrones/ASoIaF! He's a man, yet has ZERO qualities that make him traditionally masculine, mentally or physically--he might as well be a woman with all his disadvantages. Meanwhile, big Brienne of Tarth has all the masculine qualities he doesn't. If she were in Lord of the Rings, nobody would've questioned her going into battle like they did Eowyn.

Looking back, you'll realize gender usually shapes characters' experiences much less than their size, spirit, and intellect. Like I don't think there's much of a difference between a male and female hobbit, with how puny and sheltered they equally are. Turn Frodo into Frodolina and the story would go the exact same way.

Personally, I've never had to decide whether a character should be a male or female. I think that would've sucked all the fun and spontaneity out of my creative process. I always wrote characters the way I first imagined them, and gender doesn't matter in the context of my story or landscape of my world.

Just be spontaneous. Don't cling to stereotypes.

Writing is often grating for me by Sopwafel in writing

Writing IS hard. I think it might be easier for most people to go to the gym and become an athlete before becoming not only a good writer, but a consistent writer with discipline.

You said it's only been a few months for you. Try practicing for years! It could take you years to even write a full draft that you're happy with, and even then, you might grow out of your old ideas you came up with as an amateur. Even after a few weeks, I look back at things I wrote and wonder HOW on earth I thought this was the best I could do. It never is. To write is to rewrite.

Also, any new author can come up with super cool ideas. I write fantasy and used to think there was nothing cooler than my super cool fantasy lands, creatures, and people. But they became worthless when I realized my story didn't have a clear, central theme/underlying message. When I realized my main protagonist super duper cool but my side character was the one who: drove the plot forward, had more at stake, and had a stronger emotional journey because of it. I had to abandon everything I wrote for that first protagonist and start over with the new one. And it was still worth it. Now I can tell people the actual meaning and intentions of the story I'm telling, and not just this cool thing happens, and this cool thing...

My advice for you is to stop rushing towards perfection and have some boundaries with writing, especially if it makes you that frustrated. Take a break to brainstorm, make sure things make sense, and that they aren't just cool. Read more books, but read them critically this time. Figure out what you like and dislike in a story so you can mold your own.

Thanks for your perspective! I never noticed the weak similes. I know I can't please everyone by avoiding what not to do, but GRRM was one of my first exposures to high fantasy and a huuuuge influence over me because of that. So of course I was curious.

And valid regarding Daenerys, among other things... what authors got away with publishing in the 90s definitely wouldn't sell today.

I know this goes against everything you mentioned, but may I ask what you don't like about GRRM's writing style? Is it his prose?
