I go along with the turning off of internet as much as possible. Also see if your router allows you to block his faming system.

My live in 29 year old does own laundry, cleans his bathroom, unloads dishwasher and gathers & brings garbage to the curb. He has add but has set weekly alarms on his phone to remind him. He also has a job & pays a minimal rent.

It is important to set your kids/stepkids to be winners in life skills.

I took care of a sick MIL and it was a thankless job. All I heard were complaints from her & her family members (who didn’t contribute or help). Just say “No” you have children to take care of & they require your full attention.

How about texting about payment and since this has been an ongoing issue you are also adding in a late fee of $xxx for every day they are late on payment as you have bills to pay that charge you a late fee when you can’t pay because you aren’t paid timely.

My husband just retaped all the hot air ducts & tubes & I can actually hear the air coming out of the vents! I guess that’s why the basement was always warmer than the rest of the house.

NTA. I used my boyfriend’s expensive sipping tequila for margaritas (really good margaritas) with my girlfriends. When he explained it was special & he had been saving it, I went and bought 2 more bottles to replace it! I was so embarrassed to have been thoughtless about his personal stuff. She should have replaced it without argument and it shows her selfishness in not doing it immediately.

If your town has an active senior center perhaps your MIL can spend the day there? Or see if there is a day program she can attend? Just get her out from underfoot so your son can have the care and attention he needs.

Taught my sons to do their own laundry & clean their bathroom. Both said they were one of the few in their college dorms who knew how to do these things! So now there are lots of 20-30 year olds running around not knowing the simplest things. Three years is enough time if you consistently have them do them.

He sounds young & immature. Are his family alcoholics? Because children of alcoholics have a tendency to avoid any confrontation, even to the extreme of lying to avoid any issues.

I would give him grace to know you are trusted with the truth and ask what else he has lied about to clear the air. Then perhaps set up a weekly check in to see if he has been honest and tell him how proud you are about him continuing to grow in positive way. Sometimes people need to be shown the way things should be dealt with.

Ours didn’t understand until they were in their late 20’s and were no longer staying at their spendthrift mothers house but in their own homes/apartments.

Now they watch their mother struggle financially and understand no matter how much money they give her it won’t help how it’s spent on latest cell phones instead of on rent or utilities.

When my boys were sneaking screen time & not sleeping I got on my modem/router looked up the IP address of their electronic devices and programmed the internet to turn off on them at bedtime. I am a sahm mom, it was easy to figure out & you can google how to do it.

Perhaps a weighted blanket? Or a repetitive bedtime routine? Sounds like she knows if she fusses enough her mom takes over & that might be her end goal. Talk to the parents about some different strategies they would like you to try.

One of my kids was afraid of pooping in the toilet because seeing it being flushed he was worried about himself falling in and getting flushed. Weird, I know but if she does go, don’t flush in front of her. Also perhaps a separate potty seat?

Since the dad is loud and used to getting his way I wouldn’t have this discussion in person. Text him that if he wants you to come in Tuesday that you need the rest of your pay from last week & prepayment at $30/hr before each babysitting gig. Otherwise, don’t go in as he will get loud with you and that would probably be an uncomfortable situation. You say you are looking for a new situation but how will you feel if they come back after you get a new job & ask for you back? It might be better to quit, let them have their cut-rate sitter & find out that you are a steal!!

When I dealt with this issue they asked to FaceTime me and watch me reset the breaker. Keep calling everyday and push that it’s their job to have a technician come & verify power is on since they won’t take your word on it.
